Livestock Department Sahiwal raided SPU involved in Fake Sexed Semen Production
Livestock Department Sahiwal raided a semen production unit involved in alleged illegal activities. During the operation, evidence of alleged of fake sexed semen production along with semen of unregistered bulls was found.
According to details, a team of Livestock Department, comprising Deputy Director Livestock Chichawatni Dr. Aziz Ahmed, Dr. Muhammad Afzal and Dr. Usama Hassan Afzal along with local police raided a private semen production unit named Halla Sires located near Multan Road Chichawatni. During the inspection, alleged irregularities were revealed, including unauthorized preparation, processing and content of sexed semen in violation of the Punjab Livestock Breeding Act 2014.
Fake Sexed Semen Production and Other Illegalities
According to initial investigation, although the said unit was registered with the Punjab Breeding Services Authority, the ongoing activities were found to be in violation of the prescribed conditions and approved SOPs. During the inspection, unapproved semen straws, improper laboratory arrangements, inadequate biosecurity and non-compliant semen processing was found. During the operation, vials of chemicals were also found that were allegedly used to make semen into so-called sexed semen.
Threats to Livestock Production
According to officials of the Livestock Department, substandard and illegal semen production is a threat to the genetic improvement programs of livestock. The use of uncertified semen can have negative effects on the quality of cattle breeding.
After the incident, an FIR has been registered at Police Station City Chichawatni, while legal action has also been initiated under the Punjab Livestock Breeding Act 2014.

It should be noted that under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, in the light of the instructions of Provincial Minister for Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, a series of actions are underway under the leadership of Secretary Livestock Punjab Ahmed Aziz Tarar against those involved in the production and sale of illegal semen.
