The Faculty of Animal Production and Technology UVAS Lahore is a vibrant faculty within the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences with state-of-the-art research and production facilities and imparts high-quality education in all disciplines of enhancing the productivity of livestock, poultry, and animal product technologies. FAPT UVAS offer BS Poultry Science, BS Dairy Technology, and other undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Most of the activities of this faculty are at UVAS Ravi Campus Pattoki.

This Faculty of Animal Production and Technology UVAS Ravi Campus Pattoki has one of the largest livestock infrastructures among all institutes of Pakistan. This faculty is conducting cross-cutting research to develop new technologies and processes to increase milk, meat, eggs, and value addition of these vital food products.

Besides Education and Research in the field of animal production and technology, this faculty also offers a range of services for the farmers and industry. These services cover the consultancy to poultry and livestock farmers, product processors, feed millers, small and medium-scale farmers, provision of trained manpower for farm operations, and other extension activities.

BS Poultry Science at UVAS – Faculty of Animal Production and Technology

BS Poultry Science program at FAPT UVAS was initiated in 2007 to cater to the needs of specialized manpower for poultry industry. FAPT UVAS has its own Commercial Broiler Breeder Farm, Commercial Hatchery, Commercial Broiler Farm, Model Broiler Research Farm, Model Ostrich Farm, Indigenous Chicken Farms, Avian Research and Training Centre where students get hands-on-training during their degree program at UVAS Ravi Campus Pattoki. A Graduate of this BS Poultry Science program of the Faculty of Animal Production and Technology UVAS Lahore has skills to work in all kinds of poultry farms, feed mills, hatcheries, and processing plants.

BS Dairy Technology at Ravi Campus Pattoki – Faculty of Animal Production and Technology

BS Dairy Technology was the first of its kind degree program initiated in 2007 to cater to the needs of milk processing industry of Pakistan. FAPT UVAS Ravi Campus Pattoki has a complete integrated milk value chain comprising production farms, milk processing plant, milk packing, and transportation facilities. We also have state-of-the-art food testing laboratories. A Graduate in BS Dairy Technology has expertise in milk processing, evaluation, marketing of value-added milk products, and meeting international quality standards.

Department of Animal Nutrition – UVAS Ravi Campus Pattoki

The Department of Animal Nutrition started as the Animal Nutrition Section as it was established at the College of Animal Husbandry in 1954 under the inter-college exchange program between the Punjab University (College of Animal Husbandry) and Washington State University USA. The Department is offering courses to DVM, BS Poultry Science, and BS Dairy Technology programs along with offering M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition.

The department includes a modern state-of-the-art Dr. Malik Muhammad Yaqoob Amino Acid Analysis Lab, a metabolic lab for digestibility studies on poultry, a Nutrition Research Laboratory, and a modern Nutrition Lab in CLC for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The Department is also running the most sophisticated and modern analytical lab in the central Lab Complex. The Department is also actively involved in commercial activities like mineral mixture production, guidelines for farmers’ feed formulation, and commercial lab analysis.

Department of Poultry Production – Ravi Campus Pattoki

The Department of Poultry Production of the Faculty of Animal Production and Technology UVAS Lahore has one of the most developed infrastructures in Pakistan. The Department has its own commercial hatchery, breeder and broiler farm, model layer and broiler research farm, ostrich and quail farm, and indigenous bird farm.

The BS Poultry Science program is the flagship program of UVAS designed for the commercial poultry industry of Pakistan. The Department is offering courses to DVM, and BS Food Science and Technology program at the undergraduate level and offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Poultry Production. The Department has a strong liaison with industry and training of poultry professionals and farmers consultancy are key features of the Department. The Department also distributes indigenous chickens among small-scale poultry farmers and provides eggs and meat at subsidized rates.

Department of Livestock Management – UVAS Ravi Campus Pattoki

The Department of Livestock Management is actively engaged in imparting education and hands-on-training in the fields of management and production of various species of livestock, especially large and small ruminants. Department of Livestock Management has the largest production and research facilities of livestock among all universities of Pakistan. The department offers courses on livestock production/management at the undergraduate level to D.V.M. and B.S. B.S. (Hons) Dairy Technology and post-graduate level (M. Phil. & Ph.D.).

Department of Meat Science and Technology

With a focus on applied research and equipped with state-of-the-art scientific apparatus, the Department of Meat Science and Technology (MST) is working in association with the meat industry of Pakistan. All stakeholders of the meat supply chain are linked to the department like feedlot farmers, meat processors, retailers, and exporters. The Department has its own slaughtering facility and Meat shop for the General public. The Department also has modern research laboratories for quality testing of meat.

Department of Dairy Technology

This Department started when the College of Veterinary Sciences was upgraded to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore. Earlier it was named as Dairy section. The Dairy section was established in 1954 when a dairy plant was imported and installed from USA. The Department has its own commercial milk processing plant, model milk processing and packaging plant, milk distribution system, and milk value addition unit.

The Department also has state-of-the-art laboratories for food testing and quality control. The Department is offering BS Dairy Technology, M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Dairy Technology and courses in DVM, and BS Food Science and Technology Program.

Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics

The Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics FAPT UVAS is actively engaged in imparting education and hands on training in the fields of molecular genetics, quantitative genetics, genomics, and various related aspects of various species of animals and birds. The Department offers courses on breeding and genetics at undergraduate (D.V.M., B.S. (Hons) Poultry Science, B.S. (Hons) Dairy Technology and postgraduate level (M. Phil. & Ph.D.). The department offers postgraduate degree programs, i.e., M. Phil. and Ph.D. in Animal Breeding and Genetics and M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Genetics. The Department has state-of-the-art research laboratories having all the latest machines regarding genomics and genetics.

Department of Leather and Fiber Technology

The Department of Leather and Fiber Technology is Unique to FAP&T UVAS. The Department is training stakeholders regarding the optimal use of animal byproducts.

Various Departments of the Faculty are producing products for the general public including Eggs and meat of chicken, quail and ostrich, Chicks, milk, cheese, butter, flavored milk, beef and mutton, and Wanda. The Department also provides live animals for slaughtering during Eid and genetically improved birds to small-scale farmers.

Nutrition Laboratory

The Department of Animal Nutrition offers a wide range of services related to Nutritional testing such as proximate analysis, amino acid analysis, and metabolic cages for digestibility trials.

Meat Science Laboratory

The Department of Meat Science and Technology offers laboratory services related to Meat Quality testing and Texture analysis.

Genetics and Genomics Laboratory

Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics offers Genome sequencing, Genetic Analysis, and other such services to researchers and farmers.

Food Chemistry and Sensory Evaluation Laboratory

These Labs of FAPT UVAS offer Food analysis and sensory evaluation services to the commercial industry. The GC-MS testing is a unique service for the industry and researchers.
