Chairman GCLI Meeting with Minister for Livestock, Punjab
Chairman Green Corporate Livestock Initiative (GCLI) Major General (R) Shahid Mahmood held an important meeting with Provincial Minister for Livestock Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani. In the Chairman GCLI Meeting with Minister Livestock, various measures for the development of the livestock sector in Punjab, inlcuding increase in production and prosperity of livestock farmers, especially the Herd Transformation Program, were discussed in detail.
Secretary Livestock Punjab Ahmed Aziz Tarar, Chief Executive Officer GCLI Brigadier (R) Ehtesham Younis, Director Livestock Colonel (R) Abdul Rehman Qureshi, Director General (Research) Dr. Sajjad Hussain, Director General (Production) Dr. Naeem Kanwar and other officers attended the meeting. Additional Secretary (Technical) Dr. Usman Tahir and Director General Extension Dr. Syed Nadeem Badar attended the online meeting.
Herd Transformation Program Details
During the meeting, Director General (Production) Dr. Naeem Kanwar gave a detailed briefing on the Herd Transformation Project, which is currently successfully underway in 10 districts of Punjab. He said that the main objective of this project is to increase milk and meat production through genetic improvement of cattle breeds. The productivity of local cattle is being increased through modern breeding techniques, improved feed and effective management.

Provincial Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani and Chairman GCLI agreed to extend this project to all districts of Punjab so that maximum farmers can benefit from it. The meeting also emphasized that along with the improvement of local breeds, high-yielding foreign breeds should be introduced so that a significant increase in milk and meat production can be achieved at the national level.
The meeting also discussed in detail important issues such as promotion of public-private partnership, local production of vaccines, increase in meat exports, disease-free compartments and strengthening of livestock value chain.
Chairman GCLI and Minister Livestock
The Provincial Minister for Livestock said on this occasion that the Punjab government is taking all possible steps for the development of the livestock sector and is determined to provide modern facilities to the farmers. He said that such projects will not only strengthen the rural economy but also create new employment opportunities.

Chairman GCLI Major General (retd) Shahid Mahmood, while appreciating the steps taken by the Punjab government, assured that the Green Corporate Livestock Initiative will continue to fully support the development of this sector. He said that with the efforts of the Green Corporate Livestock Initiative, the world’s best gender sorting technology is working in Pakistan while the supply of gender-sorted straws of the world’s best breeding bulls is also ongoing. He appreciated the subsidy provided by the Punjab government under the Herd Transformation Program.
At the end of the meeting, it was resolved that through an integrated strategy and mutual cooperation, the livestock sector of Punjab would be developed on modern lines and would play an important role in ensuring the country’s food security.
