Gender Sorted Straws are being produced at GCLI Farm, Okara Lab
The production of gender sorted straws from high-quality local and imported livestock breeds is successfully continuing at the GCLI Farm Okara according to international standards. Farmers are also receiving a steady supply of these specialized artificial insemination doses. In addition, regular supplies have now started for the Punjab Livestock Department. By using these special doses, farmers can decide in advance whether they want the birth of a female calf or a male calf. These views were expressed by the Director Farms of Green Corporate Livestock Initiative (GCLI), Colonel (R) Imran Masood Khan, during a special conversation.
Significance of Gender Sorted Straws
He explained that gender sorted straws are being produced at the GCLI farm using modern technology, standardized laboratory protocols, and international breeding standards. A state-of-the-art gender sorting system has been installed in a fully equipped laboratory. The main goal of this project is to significantly improve productivity in both the dairy and beef sectors of Pakistan. This initiative is expected to increase milk and meat production while also improving the income of livestock farmers.

Col (R) Imran Masood Khan further stated that the project provides gender sorted straws for both dairy and beef breeds, marking an important milestone for genetic improvement in Pakistan’s livestock sector. With the use of these specialized artificial insemination doses, farmers can produce calves of the desired sex. This allows dairy farmers to increase the number of female calves, while beef farmers can better plan for the production of male animals.
High Quality Bulls and Diverse Breeds
He added that high-quality Holstein Friesian breeding bulls have been imported from the United States to supply world-class gender-sorted straws for the dairy sector. These bulls belong to the internationally renowned genetics company CRV Genetics and have a TPI (Total Performance Index) of more than 3200. They possess superior traits such as high milk yield, strong body structure, improved health, easy calving ability, and longer productive life.

In addition, gender-sorted straws from imported breeding bulls of Jersey, Gyr, Brahman, Nelore, Angus, Braford, Charbray, and Wagyu breeds is also being provided locally. At the same time, gender-sorted straws from indigenous breeds such as Sahiwal, Cholistani, Red Sindhi, and Nili-Ravi is also available to help preserve and improve Pakistan’s native cattle genetics.
Distribution of Gender Sorted Straws and Subsidy
He also noted that gender-sorted straws are being supplied to farmers at highly affordable local prices. Supplies have also been provided to the Punjab Livestock Department, which is offering them to farmers on subsidy with the support of the Punjab government. Efforts are underway to deliver this facility widely so that the benefits of modern breeding technology reach farmers at the grassroots level.

He emphasized that this initiative will promote the breeding of superior livestock within the country, reduce reliance on imports, and strengthen the national economy.
Col (R) Imran Masood Khan reaffirmed that the gender sorted straws produced in the advanced laboratory of the Green Corporate Livestock Initiative meet international standards of quality, efficiency, and performance. He expressed the commitment that GCLI will continue to play a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s livestock sector through modern scientific approaches.
