Provincial Minister Rana Iqbal Khan chaired 16th UVAS Convocation 2025
The 16th convocation of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore was held at city campus. Provincial Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan chaired 16th UVAS Convocation 2025. Member Provincial Assembly Ms. Shagufta Faisal, Secretary Livestock Punjab Ahmed Aziz Tarar, Vice Chancellor Veterinary University Meritorious Professor Dr. Muhammad Younis (Tamgha Imtiaz), along with syndicate members, professors from various universities, representatives of poultry, dairy, food, meat and pharmaceutical industries, other stakeholders, students and a large number of alumni were present on the occasion.
1,750 graduate students were awarded degrees in the convocation. 357 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, 734 BS Honours, 357 Doctor of Pharmacy, 66 BBA Honours, 55 PhD and 436 MPhil degrees were awarded to students. Medals were also given to 63 students who secured positions at 16th UVAS Convocation 2025.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan congratulated the students who received degrees and medals, their parents and teachers and exhorted the students to play their important role in the development of the country with full effort and dedication. He said that successful students are the pride of their parents and the university and are a valuable asset for the country. Provinicial Minister said that Pakistan is an agricultural country and Pakistani livestock is considered the highest in the world in terms of its characteristics.

He said that the Veterinary University is making significant progress under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younis and also appreciated his achievements.

Secretary Livestock Punjab Ahmed Aziz Tarar congratulated the students of the Veterinary University on successfully completing their degrees. He said that to be successful in life, one needs to work with full effort and dedication.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younis gave a detailed account of the university’s educational, research, clinical services, community services, extension programs and the current positions of the Veterinary University in the universities of Pakistan, its achievements and its 143-year historical importance.
Dr. Yunus said that the Veterinary University has always played an exemplary role in highlighting the skills of the young generation in veterinary education by utilizing its high academic standards, research and resources.

Ranking of UVAS
He said that the Veterinary University Lahore is among the best universities in the world, 601-800, according to the World University Rankings, while it is at 301-350 in the Times Higher Education Asia Rankings.
Professor Yunus added that in the Interdisciplinary Science Ranking 2026, the Veterinary University is currently ranked first among public sector universities, while it is fourth in the list of all public and private sector universities in Pakistan, while it is at 155 globally. He said that the Veterinary University has secured a position of 51-100 in the subject of Veterinary Science according to the QS World University Rankings, while the university also holds a prominent position among the top ten universities in Pakistan in the Higher Education Commission’s Sports Rankings.

Academics at UVAS
At present, the university offers 79 different professional degree programs, including 19 undergraduate, 34 MPhil and 26 PhD programs, in which more than 11,000 students from different countries of the world, including Pakistan, are studying.
Professor Dr. Yunus said that this year the university has given scholarships worth Rs. 129.15 million to 1946 talented students on the basis of merit.
Research and Development highlighted
He said that the teachers in the university are working on 52 research projects worth more than Rs. 411.367 million. The faculty members of the university have written more than 600 research papers in the last one year, which has boosted the research culture in the university. Development of foot-and-mouth disease and lumpy skin vaccine, alternatives to antibiotics for poultry, control of rabies, development of ELISA kit to detect immune response after vaccination, livestock in vitro fertilization, sustainable production of fish meat and food products made from it and increase in value-added fish by-products and control of tick-borne diseases are some of the important research projects of the university.
Professor Younis said that the university is working on five development projects worth Rs 3.589 billion, out of which two projects worth Rs 303.92 million have been funded by the university from its own resources, while the others have been sponsored by the Higher Education Commission Islamabad and the Government of Punjab.
Recently, the university has received a development project of Rs 1465.8 million from the Higher Education Commission for the provision of facilities related to the academic block in Ravi Campus Pattoki.

Professor Younis said that keeping in mind the demands of the modern era and the needs of the time, the university has digitized its clinics, laboratories and internship management system so that facilities can be provided to the students and the community in a better way. He emphasized to the students that the university has equipped you with modern knowledge and skills and I hope that you will play an exemplary role in the development of the country and nation in your practical life and will also become a beacon for others.
