Workshop on Pet Dentistry or veterinary dentistry and Pet Dental Health held at BZU Multan. Experts discussed dog dental diseases, cat dental diseases, and their prevention. Besides this, they also discussed dog dental anatomy and cat dental anatomy. Furthermore, they also focused on dog dental cleaning and cat dental cleaning with the advice of a veterinary dentist. This is very important for dog dental care and cat dental care. They also discussed the prevention of Cat and Dog Gingivitis and other diseases. Moreover, Experts recommended routine dog teeth brushing and cat teeth brushing for pet dental health.

Dr. Rana Akmal of Rana Pet Care Center Islamabad was the resource person. The Faculty of Veterinary Science organized this workshop.

Dental Problems of Pets & Pet Dentistry

The field of Pet Dentistry related to veterinary practice deals with dental issues of pets including dogs, cats, and others. Pet dentist treats different dog teeth problems and cat teeth problems. This is a very important field for the pet owners. Bad breath, abnormal chewing, food dropping, and reduced appetite due to pain in the mouth may be the signs of any dental problem. Besides this, gingivitis and tarter are common issues. The formation of plaque starts the problem. Further, it hardens and becomes the tarter. It ultimately leads to periodontal disease. On the other hand, Gingivitis is a mild form of periodontitis in which there is inflammation of the gums. It is caused by bacterial plaque.
In case of any abnormality, the pet owner should immediately visit the Vet. If Dental issue is not taken seriously at an early stage, it becomes worse.

It is very important to know general dog dental anatomy and cat dental anatomy. A mature dog has 42 teeth normally. 20 teeth are on the upper side while 22 are on the lower side. The dog has four types of teeth. These are incisors in front, canine at the sides, and premolar and molars at the back side of the jaw. Incisors are 12 in number along with 4 canines, 16 premolars, and 10 molars.
A kitten has 26 teeth, while a mature cat has 32 permanent teeth. It has 12 incisors, 4 canines, 10 premolars and 4 molars
