National Veterinary Laboratory Islamabad is working for the PPR Disease Control Program. Under the National Program for PPR Control, the Team arranged an awareness activity in Talagang and Chakwal. They highlighted different aspects of PPR Goat and PPR Sheep along with PPR symptoms. Besides PPR treatment in goat and sheep, Dr Tahsin Alam and other experts also highlighted its control strategies. Along with PPR goat treatment, they also discussed PPR disease in Urdu. Furthermore, they also informed the farmers about PPR disease symptoms and PPR vaccination in Urdu. They specially emphasized on PPR Vaccine. On the other hand, PPR in sheep and goat is a fatal disease. PPR disease full form is Peste des Petits Ruminants.

PPR Disease Symptoms

Symptoms are important to diagnosis. PPR Symptoms include high fever and sores and blisters on the lips and mouth. Furthermore, PPR Disease symptoms also include discharge from the nose and eyes. This discharge thickens over time in PPR Symptoms. Moreover, the animal develops cough and dysentery. Besides this, there is also difficulty in breathing, and pneumonia-like symptoms appear. Further, due to deficiency of salts in the body, the animal dies. These are different PPR Disease Symptoms. PPR disease full form is Peste des Petits Ruminants.

Severity of PPR 

Besides PPR symptoms, experts also discussed its severity. PPR in sheep and goat is a highly fatal disease. The cause of PPR is a virus. PPR in sheep and goat spreads rapidly from one animal to another. On the other hand, it has economic impacts also.

Spread of PPR Goat and Sheep

PPR spreads through breathing. Further, spread can occur through shared food and water, as well as mutual contact. The movement of animals from one herd to another as well as the visit of a shepherd or doctor from one herd to another can also spread the disease. The intermingling of animals from different herds during grazing also leads to the spread of PPR Goat and sheep. The movement of animals to the market, the entrance of new animals in the herd, and the return of animals left from the market can also transmit the disease from infected animals. On the occasion of Bakra Eid, the risk of PPR in sheep and goat spread increases.

PPR Disease Control Control and Prevention

PPR Disease Control and prevention is the only way against this disease. Annual PPR vaccine should be administered to animals above three months of age. PPR vaccination is also essential for pregnant animals. It will protect the baby for three to four months. Expert says PPR vaccine is safe for pregnant animals.

Besides PPR Vaccination, quarantine is also important. New animals should be separated from the old animals for some time. If the new animals have not been vaccinated, PPR vaccination should be the first choice. Furthermore, farmers should avoid the mixing of herds. Furthermore, they should separate the animals returning from the market from other animals for 10 to 15 days.
