Institute of Reproductive Biotechnology and Genomics (IRBG)
The Institute of Reproductive Biotechnology and Genomics (IRBG) has been established to promote modern reproductive biotechnology, genomics and genetic improvement in the livestock sector in Pakistan. This institution will work to promote modern livestock breeding in the country by integrating scientific research, modern technology, professional training and commercial services on a single platform.
Aims and Objectives of IRBG
The aim of establishing the institution is to bridge the gap between modern scientific research and practical livestock production so that modern reproductive biotechnology can be directly brought to livestock farmers, breeders and the livestock industry.

IRBG President Rao Kamran Aslam says that this institution has been formed to unify various sectors of livestock biotechnology in Pakistan under one institutional system. The institute has integrated research, commercial services and workforce development by bringing embryo technology, semen production, genomics research and professional training under one roof. He said that this integrated model will help in the rapid transfer of modern scientific technology to the livestock industry.

Winning Team – the Founders
Dr. Qaiser Shahzad, Chief Executive Officer of the institute, said that our team has previously successfully introduced livestock embryo production in commercial farming in Pakistan. After the establishment of five different IVF labs, Vita Gene Farms has been working very successfully for the past one year. Hundreds of confirmed pregnancies have been achieved from Vita Gene Farms’ platforms.
Divisions of IRBG
He said that Vita Gene Farms will now function as a sub-commercial division of the Institute of Reproductive Biotechnology and Genomics. Another division, NextGen Sires, has been established to provide high-quality semen. The Research and Genomics Division will conduct research on advanced genomics, molecular biology, embryology, precision breeding and reproductive biotechnology, while the Training and Capacity Building Division will conduct practical training, certification programs and workshops for veterinary professionals, researchers, students and technicians.
Dr. Qaiser Shahzad further said that the organization’s Elite Flock Division will provide the genetics of the world’s top-class sheep and goats in Pakistan, for which links have been established with various institutions around the world.
He said that the aim of IRBG is to provide world-class services and products related to such modern technologies in Pakistan that significantly increase the genetic improvement and reproductive efficiency of animals, as well as their productivity.
International Collaboration
He added that the institute has a partnership with the Brazilian institute Brio Embryo and the Chinese institute Beijing Asia, under which global experts will provide services from the institute’s platforms. In Pakistan, work is being done on embryo production and transfer in cows and buffaloes, as well as on embryo production and transfer in sheep and goats. Semen of domestic and foreign renowned breeds is being provided for all livestock according to the needs of both the beef and dairy industries. Along with this, work will also be done on genomics.
Research and Training at IRBG
Dr. Qaiser Shahzad said that along with commercial services, our focus is also on research and training. Under the Higher Education project, work is underway on a research project related to embryo cryopreservation in the latest IVF lab of Vita Gene in collaboration with NIBGE.
Progress is also being made on collaboration with various educational and research institutions so that researchers and students can be provided with modern practical research facilities. Moreover professional training courses related to IVF and reproductive technologies are also being launched.
Dr. Qaiser Shahzad, while giving a special message to professionals, breeders and farmers across Pakistan, said that IRBG is your own institution. We all have to take full advantage of it for the development of Pakistan’s livestock sector on modern foundations. For this, the institution will provide full support to all stakeholders.
