History of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences
The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Gomal University was established in 1994. In 1999, it was upgraded to the Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences. In 2002, the institute was upgraded to the Gomal College of Veterinary Sciences. Moreover, in 2017, the institution reached another milestone by being elevated to the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Gomal University. It is the fourth oldest veterinary institution in Pakistan and the first of its kind in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This faculty has consistently contributed to advancing veterinary medicine and animal welfare through a combination of rigorous academic programs and research initiatives.

Department of Basic Veterinary Sciences
The Department of Basic Veterinary Sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Gomal University, serves as a veterinary education and research institute. This department focuses on providing knowledge of veterinary sciences and fosters the academic and practical understanding of animal health and biological systems. It has primary role in the Gomal University DVM Degree.
Department of Clinical Sciences
The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Gomal University is dedicated to advanced training, research, and the application of clinical practices in veterinary medicine and surgery. The department serves as a hub for diagnosing, treating, and managing animal health issues, ensuring that students gain the practical expertise necessary for professional success. It also plays an important role in the training of Gomal University DVM Degree students.

Department of Pathobiology
The Department of Pathobiology at FVAS Gomal University covers Pathology and Parasitology sections. It focuses on understanding the mechanisms of animal diseases, their diagnosis, prevention, and control. The department provides a strong foundation and equips students with the knowledge and skills to address animal health challenges effectively.
Department of Animal and Poultry Production
The Department of Animal and Poultry Production at the FVAS Gomal University is dedicated to advancing the science and practice of animal husbandry and poultry production. The department plays a vital role in equipping students with knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of livestock and poultry management. It covers the areas of livestock management, poultry production, animal nutrition, and animal breeding and genetics. It offers courses for Gomal University DVM Degree and other degree programs.
The Department has received NOC for the launch of the Postgraduate Program in “Animal Sciences” in 2020. The academic Council of Gomal University has approved Research fields/Disciplines for the postgraduate programs under the umbrella of Animal Sciences as:

It collaborates with the Livestock and Dairy Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to provide services in Dera Ismail Khan and the merged districts. It organizes veterinary camps in rural and remote areas.
