Faculty of Veterinary Sciences BZU Multan was established in 2006. The purpose of this faculty is to provide education and research opportunities in South Punjab related to the livestock and poultry sector. This faculty is playing an active role in animal health and animal production. The BZU Veterinary Faculty offers Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM Program along with other programs and diploma courses. FVS BZU Multan also offers veterinary services and diagnostic services for the farmers of South Punjab. Moreover, it also focuses on the awareness of the farmers.

Academic Programs of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences BZU Multan

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM Program

This is the main degree of BZU Veterinary Faculty. The five-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM program is designed to produce skilled veterinary graduates.

 

  • BSc. (Hons.) Poultry Science

This is a specially designed program to produce graduates for the poultry industry having expertise in poultry production. These graduates are trained in poultry nutrition, breeding, housing, and poultry management.

 

Faculty of Veterinary Sciences BZU Multan

 

  • Phil and Ph.D. Programs

Faculty also offers M.Phil in the fields of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Pathology, Parasitology, Pharmacology & Toxicology, and Animal Nutrition. It also offers the program of PhD in Pathology.

 

  • Para-Veterinary Training

The Para-Veterinary School of the Faculty offers a two-year Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD), Poultry Assistant Diploma, and short courses in dairy and poultry farming.

 


Departments of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences BZU Multan

Department of Biosciences

This department of BZU Veterinary Faculty focuses on the foundational disciplines of veterinary sciences. It covers the sections of Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Statistics. These subjects have the primary importance as these are the base of the veterinary students and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM program. These subjects provide a thorough understanding of animal biology and health to the students.

 

Department of Pathobiology

This department includes the sections of Parasitology, Microbiology, Pathology, and Epidemiology. It imparts essential knowledge of these subjects for disease diagnosis and prevention. This Department also offers the molecular diagnostics services through Dr. Masood Akhtar Hi-Tech Laboratory.

 

Department of Livestock and Poultry Production

This department of faculty covers the subjects of animal production. Its sections include Animal Breeding and Genetics, Animal Nutrition, Livestock Management, and Wildlife. This department educates and trains students in advanced husbandry practices and animal production technologies. For hands-on training, the department is equipped with a feed milling unit, livestock farms, and an environment-controlled poultry house.

 

Department of Clinical Sciences

This is the most important part of the BZU Veterinary Faculty which strengthens the clinical skills of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM program graduates. It covers the areas of veterinary medicine, veterinary surgery, and theriogenology. The department has the facilities of a teaching hospital, operation theatres, and diagnostic tools including Digital X ray and Ultrasonography. The department also has a theriogenology lab for semen analysis and cryopreservation.


 

Facilities and Services for the Farmers by FVS BZU Multan

The FVS BZU Multan is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities. These facilitates not only provide research and training opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students but also offer services for farmers and the industry of South Punjab. The facilities include:

  • University Veterinary Teaching Hospital: It offers animal treatment, surgery, and reproduction-related services to local small and large animals including artificial insemination and pregnancy diagnosis. This hospital also has the facility of ambulance service.

 

  • University Diagnostic Laboratory (UDL): This lab of FVS BZU Multan offers a range of diagnostic tests for livestock and poultry sectors.

 

  • Dr. Masood Akhtar Hi-Tech Laboratory: This offers advanced molecular diagnostic services.

 

  • University Semen Analysis & Cryopreservation Laboratory (USA&CL): This is a pioneer facility in Southern Punjab for semen analysis and cryopreservation. This lab is equipped with advanced tools like CASA, phase contrast microscopes, and deep freezing system.

 

  • Experimental Livestock and Poultry Farms: These farms provide hands-on training to the students in livestock and poultry management. Famers also get training in modern husbandry practices. Directorate of Farms includes dairy farm, fattening farm, and environment-controlled poultry houses.

 

Community Engagement and Services of Veterinary Sciences BZU Multan

FVS BZU Multan actively contributes to the farmer community of South Punjab. BZU Veterinary Faculty provides veterinary care through its teaching hospital and ambulatory services. It also offers diagnostic and advisory services to livestock and poultry farmers. It arranges different awareness activities for the farmers. Moreover, it also engages local farmers in various research projects and disseminates the results and knowledge at the grassroots level.

 

Centre of Excellence in Veterinary Sciences – Veterinary Sciences BZU Multan

The Faculty of Veterinary Sciences BZU Multan is providing quality education to the students of veterinary sciences. It is also providing services to the farmers and livestock industry of South Punjab. It is the Centre of Excellence in Veterinary Sciences in Multan with farmers friendly approach. Moreover, it is also an opportunity for the students of South Punjab and Multan to adopt this profession through economic education. It is also a source of research-based inputs for policy-making while considering the Livestock of South Punjab.
