Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences was established in 2006 at Pir Mehr Ali Shah PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi. It started the Arid University DVM Program (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine), a five-year program for veterinary graduates. Arid University Veterinary Faculty is also offering BS Animal Science and postgraduate programs. Moreover, Arid University Veterinary Faculty is also offering veterinary services in Rawalpindi and surrounding areas.

Veterinary Departments of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences
Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences
The Department of Veterinary Biomedical Science focuses on the basic subjects of veterinary sciences. Its areas include teaching and research in Veterinary Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, and Pharmacology. It equips students with essential knowledge of animal body structure, functions, and drug pharmacology. This department is the base of veterinary education in the faculty.
Department of Parasitology and Microbiology
The Department of Parasitology & Microbiology teaches Veterinary Microbiology and Veterinary Parasitology along with its research focus on disease diagnosis. The Microbiology section explores pathogenic microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi) with its focus on Microbiology, Immunology, and Virology. The Parasitology section addresses the diverse parasitic organisms of veterinary and one health importance. Its research focus is on parasitic diseases and the control of their causative agents to support livestock and poultry production. It covers Protozoology, Helminthology, and Entomology.
Department of Veterinary Pathology
Previously this department of Arid University Veterinary Faculty was the section of the Department of Pathobiology. In 2018 it was established as an independent department. Its areas of interest are anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, and toxico-pathology. It focuses on teaching and research on disease mechanisms and disease diagnosis in poultry, livestock and other animals.
Department of Clinical Studies
The Department of Clinical Studies is the core department of the faculty of veterinary and animals with its focus the professional development of veterinary graduates in clinical skills. It offers courses and hands-on training in veterinary medicine, surgery, radiology, and theriogenology for Arid University DVM and other programs. Besides research and educational activities, the department also offers medical, surgical, and reproduction-related services for the animals at its veterinary teaching hospital.
Animal Sciences Departments of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences
Department of Livestock Production & Management
The focus of this department is on farm management, animal nutrition, breeding, and feed technologies. It educates and trains the students of veterinary and animal sciences in Livestock and dairy management with a special focus on animal nutrition. The department also focuses on research in the field of animal nutrition and advanced livestock management techniques. BS Animal Science is a significant program of this department.
Department of Poultry Science
This is the specialized department for education and research in the field of poultry production and poultry sciences. The department collaborates with the poultry industry and the Poultry Research Institute for research activities. It offers courses for BS Animal Science, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM and other programs.
Department of Animal Breeding & Genetics
Previously this department was the part of Livestock Production & Management. In 2018, it developed into an independent department. This department focuses on research and education in the field of animal breeding and genetics. It has advanced Laboratories including Molecular Genetics Lab and Functional Genomics Lab. It offers courses for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Services offered by the Faculty
- Veterinary Teaching Hospital offers a comprehensive range of services for all types of animals covering diagnosis, treatment, and surgical procedures.
- Pet Clinic especially focuses on veterinary services for companion animals including cats, dogs and fancy birds. It is equipped with advanced diagnostics tools including X-ray and Ultrasound.
Contributions to the Livestock and Poultry Sector
The Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences at PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi is contributing to the livestock and poultry sector by producing human resources. It is the source of veterinary education in Upper Punjab. The core mission of this Arid University Veterinary Faculty is to produce skilled professionals via Arid University DVM program (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) and other degrees capable of addressing needs of the industry and farmers. Moreover, it focuses on research in animal production, animal health, and animal diagnostics.
