Feed Cost Management and Negotiation

Dr. Zafarullah said that to control feed costs, we should first determine what our own target is and how much income will be. This will allow us to assess the cash flow situation as well as the budget available for feed. The next step is to look at the cost components that can be reduced by looking at our budget.

He said that to reduce costs, we should negotiate with suppliers for price reduction. Along with this, we should minimize feed waste on the farm. Looking at more milk production, we should look at the overall cost of production. For this, we should get opinions from experts and also study other farms so that the cost of feed can be reduced by getting information from different quarters.

 

Quality of Feed Ingredients

Dr. Zafarullah further said that along with quantity, quality should be taken into account in the feed and the dry matter and other aspects of the nutrients should be looked at. Testing the goods before purchasing them for quality and then making proper arrangements for their transportation and storage on the farm are very important aspects.

Emphasizing on the mycotoxin level in the feed ingredients, he said that it has a direct impact on the quality of the feed, animal health, ability to reproduce and the overall economics of the farm. For mycotoxins, he also talked about different tools and methods for checking the moisture content of nutrients on the farm. In this regard, he also highlighted the importance of laboratory analysis.

Dr. Zafarullah also talked about nutrition, especially the ratio of protein and energy in it. He also talked about the different methods available for food chemical analysis of food and then formulation based on it. He also talked about different software and applications in this regard.

Finally, Dr. Zafarullah emphasized that along with collecting data related to feed management, one should set their targets by getting the services of experts and then take practical steps to achieve the targets through appropriate strategies. He said that only through better management related to food can the farming business be made successful.
