Directorate General Livestock Research – Livestock Department KPK
The Directorate General Livestock Research of Livestock Department KPK focuses on innovative solutions to address challenges in the livestock sector through research and development. It conducts research and provides research based solutions in animal health, breeding, nutrition, and production. The directorate produces a range of vaccines for livestock and poultry. It collaborates with universities and research institutions to create opportunities for postgraduate studies and research.

The directorate conducts both applied and fundamental research. Its focus is on disease control, vaccine development, feed formulation, and analysis. Its facilities also provide diagnostic services and analytical services for feed, fodder, and animal by-products.

Research Stations under DG Livestock Research
Directorate General Livestock Research under Livestock Department KPK has research stations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These stations focus on the research and development of various aspects of livestock production. Focused areas of research include animal health, animal production, animal feeding, fodder, forages, cattle feed, and animal breeding. Two feed mills also manufacture cattle feed. These research stations include:

Center of Animal Nutrition (CAN)
The Center of Animal Nutrition includes Animal Nutrition, Poultry Nutrition, and Drug Residues sections. It provides feed analysis services to livestock and poultry farmers, feed dealers, manufacturers, government and semi-government organizations, and exporters. The Center also conducts adaptive, farm, and field-oriented research to support the livestock and poultry sectors.
Poultry Research Institute Jaba Mansehra
The Poultry Research Institute comprises Poultry Breeding, Poultry Nutrition, and Poultry Health sections. Its primary functions include conducting research on poultry breeding and emerging poultry diseases, providing diagnostic facilities, and supplying disease-free chicks to farmers. The Institute promotes poultry production in rural areas, shares improved management practices, and offers postgraduate research facilities and internships for graduates and diploma holders. It disseminates research findings through publications and mass media and extends advisory and feasibility services to farmers.
Sannan Goat Research Station, Charbagh, Sawat
Established under a developmental project (2014–2017), this station aims to genetically enhance the productivity of local goat breeds in the Malakand region by crossbreeding with the world-renowned Saanen dairy goat breed. The station maintains pure Saanen goat flocks and their crosses to study economic traits under local conditions. It also raises awareness among farmers about superior exotic dairy goat breeds and their benefits.
Veterinary Research Institute – Livestock Department KPK
