Objectives of CM Punjab Livestock Card Scheme?

The CM Punjab Livestock Card Scheme aims to strengthen Punjab’s livestock sector by helping small livestock farmers. It will improve the growth of their animals. The main objectives of the scheme include:

  • Provide interest-free loans to livestock farmers.
  • Improve the growth and weight of male calves through better nutrition and proper feeding.
  • Increase beef production in Punjab to meet the growing demand for meat.
  • Reduce the financial burden on farmers by making livestock farming more affordable.
  • Help farmers earn higher income by producing healthier and heavier animals.
  • Increase meat exports by producing better-quality beef for local and international markets.
  • Create more employment opportunities in rural areas through the growth of the livestock sector.
  • Strengthen Punjab’s rural economy by supporting small livestock farmers and improving their livelihoods.

More importantly, farmers can withdraw up to 25% of the approved loan amount in cash. This cash can help cover other livestock-related expenses. Meanwhile, the remaining amount is available through the Livestock Card to purchase wanda (animal feed), mineral mixtures, and silage from registered dealers.

Cash Withdrawal Facility under the Livestock Card

The CM Punjab Livestock Card gives farmers greater financial flexibility. Under this scheme, eligible farmers can withdraw up to 25% of the approved loan amount in cash. This cash can be used for essential livestock expenses that cannot be paid through the Livestock Card. For example, farmers may use it for transportation, labor charges, veterinary services, or other urgent farm needs. Meanwhile, the remaining 75% of the loan is used through the Livestock Card to purchase approved animal feed and other eligible livestock inputs. As a result, farmers can manage their daily farm operations more effectively while ensuring that most of the loan is invested in improving livestock production.

Strengthening Pakistan’s Meat Export Industry

One of the key objectives of the Livestock Card Scheme is to expand Pakistan’s meat production and export potential. Livestock is one of the most important sectors of Pakistan’s agriculture. However, many small and medium-scale farmers struggle to purchase quality feed due to limited financial resources. As a result, male calves do not grow properly. In addition, many farmers sell them for slaughter early because they do not have enough money to feed and raise them further.

To address this challenge, the Punjab Government has introduced the Livestock Card Scheme. The programme provides farmers with easy access to interest-free loans. Consequently, farmers can purchase quality feed and other essential inputs without facing the burden of payments.

Moreover, with better feeding practices and improved weight gain, farmers can produce high-quality beef that meets both domestic and international demand. According to the experts, this programme will strengthen the country’s meat value chain while creating new income opportunities for livestock farmers.

Interest-Free Loans for Livestock Farmers

Under the CM Punjab Livestock Card Scheme, eligible farmers can receive an interest-free loan up to Rs. 540,000.  This livestock card provides interest-free loans for livestock farmers. They can use this loan to buy animal feed and other important items needed to raise healthy male calves. As a result, farmers can improve the growth of their animals without worrying about the high cost of feed.

In addition, the Livestock Card makes it easy to buy wanda (animal feed), mineral mixtures, and silage from registered dealers. This helps farmers get quality products at the right place and ensures that the loan is used for livestock farming.
