History of World Veterinary Day

International Veterinary Day was first observed in the year 2000 to raise public awareness about the role of the veterinary profession in society. World Veterinary Association initiated this activity. Over the years, it has evolved into a widely recognized global event, celebrated with seminars, educational campaigns, awareness walks, free veterinary camps, and community outreach programs.

World Veterinary Association announces a special Theme every year. To further promote the cause, the WVA also sponsors the World Veterinary Day Award.

Activities on World Vet Day 2025 in Pakistan and the World

Stakeholders in Pakistan observe International Veterinary Day in all major cities. Various seminars, workshops, and awareness walks are organized. Veterinary educational institutes also arrange various activities to raise awareness and highlight its significance. Moreover, veterinary student societies and clubs especially participate in such activities.

Such activities are also organized in other countries. In conjunction with World Veterinary Day, the 40th World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC) will be co-hosted by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) from July 18–22, 2025, in Washington, D.C. This event aims to bring together the global veterinary community.

Furthermore, the WVA and Health for Animals have partnered to present the World Veterinary Day Award 2025, which includes a $5,000 prize for the organization that best promotes the annual theme.
