World Veterinary Day Theme 2024

The theme for World Veterinary Day 2024 is “Veterinarians are essential health workers”. This theme focused on the importance and role of veterinarians in the overall health of the world. Vets play a role not only in animal health but also in human health. This role is hidden and indirect but highly significant. By keeping the animals healthy, vets protect the humans from the Zoonotic Diseases. These are the diseases which can be transferred from animals to humans.

Vets have a primary role in livestock production. They not only keep the farm animals and farm birds healthy but also contribute directly to their management and production. So by providing safe and healthy livestock products, they keep humans healthy. These products include milk, eggs, and meat. By providing animal protein and other nutrients, they keep humans strong and healthy, both physically and mentally.

As livestock products contribute the major share of human food, so vets also play a role in food security along with food safety and food quality.

By keeping animals healthy vets also keep the environment safe. This ultimately benefits both humans and animals. So Veterinarians are essential part of the health system as well as food security. Veterinarians are essential health workers.

History of the Day

This Day of Veterinarians is celebrated on the call of the World Veterinary Association. The celebration of this day started in 2000. Since then, the world observes this day on the last Saturday of April every year. World Veterinary Association selects a Theme for each year. Different countries follow this theme while conducting activities on this day.

Happy Vet Day 2024

All veterinary stakeholders in different parts of the world observe this day in different ways. Vets say Happy Veterinary Day to each other. Farmers, Pet owners, and other stakeholders also wish Happy World Veterinary Day. The public and stakeholders appreciate vets and veterinary organizations. Besides different seminars and awareness activities, media interaction and social media campaigns are also part of these celebrations. Moreover, institutes and societies also organize different competitions.
