On this occasion, Dr. Khursheed Ahmed said that PPR (Kata) is a contagious disease of sheep and goats, which has a high mortality rate in affected animals. Kata disease kills valuable animals of herders and farmers, which also reduces the production of mutton and wool in the country.

He said that NVL is providing free vaccines to eradicate this disease and is also supporting government laboratories across the country so that timely diagnosis and vaccination can prevent the disease.

Dr. Khurshid Ahmed said that efforts are being made to declare the northern areas as PPR free zones as soon as possible, which will increase the production of mutton and wool from the northern area. These small animals not only provide meat, but also the valuable wool and leather obtained from them are used to make shawls, clothes and other items, which are exported to other countries and earn valuable foreign exchange.

He said that under the National Plan for Eradication of PPR (Kata) by NVL, vaccines are being procured from Turkey and provided free of cost so that the loss caused to farmers and herders due to this disease can be minimized.

Senior Veterinary Officer Jaba Research Center Dr. Sirajuddin took Dr. Khurshid Ahmed and his team to the research center. The National Veterinary Laboratory team reviewed the research trial conducted regarding the prevention of PPR and took blood samples of the animals.
