Minister for Livestock highlighted Livestock Department Initiatives, Services and Achievements in Punjab
Provincial Minister for Livestock Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani highlighted livestock department initiatives, services and achievements in a press briefing. He has said that, according to the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the livestock sector in Punjab is being developed on modern lines. Timely, quality and modern veterinary facilities are being provided to farmers at their doorsteps.
Compared to 2021-22, the budget of the livestock department has increased by 78 percent, while the development budget has increased by 170 percent. Interest-free loans of Rs 10 billion have been allocated for the development of the livestock sector and economic support to farmers. The recovery rate has reached 55 percent.
So far, 4 lakh animals have benefited under the Livestock Card Program. Meanwhile, a target has been set to include another 6 lakh animals in the program over the next two years.

Livestock Department Initiatives for FMD Control
The provincial minister said that 8 compartments have been established in Punjab to combat Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), including 7 new compartments. Tagging and vaccination of 45,000 animals have also been completed.

While highlighting livestock department initiatives, he said that X-ray facilities and modern veterinary operation theaters are being established in every district of Punjab. Furthermore, 36 laboratories have been established at district headquarters, while 230 veterinary hospitals will be revamped in the future.
Livestock Department Veterinary Services and Field Support
Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said that 1,000 interns were deployed under the Chief Minister’s Internship Program. With their services, 3.4 million animals were treated.
Moreover, motorcycles have been provided to 6,964 para vets to make field service delivery more effective. He said that 53.8 million animals were treated in 2025.

All records of animal treatment are being recorded on the 9211 system of PITB. Feedback from farmers is also being obtained through 9211 after each vaccine dose to ensure quality and transparency of service delivery.
Livestock Department Initiatives for Breed Improvement
The provincial minister said that there has been a 35.2 percent increase in artificial insemination of animals. Semen and embryos of the Girolando breed are being provided for breeding high-quality animals.
He said that the Herd Transformation Program has been launched with the aim of increasing milk and meat production and improving the breed of animals. A target of 840,000 animals has been set under the program.
Under the program, 5,600 semen straws of high-quality animals were sold, on which a subsidy of Rs 3,900 per straw was given. As a result, semen straws worth Rs 5,600 were provided to farmers for only Rs 1,700.

Vaccine Production and Savings
The Minister for Livestock said that the Veterinary Research Institute (VRI) has started local production of vaccines. So far, 260 million vaccine doses have been produced.
If the same vaccines were imported, about Rs 17 billion would have been spent. However, local production has saved Rs 16.16 billion.
He said that VRI has also produced 12 million non-purified vaccines, while a target has been set to produce 100 million vaccines in the future.

The vaccine for lumpy skin disease, which was earlier available for Rs 300, is now being provided locally in Punjab for just Rs 30. The vaccine produced by VRI is also being provided across the country.
The provincial minister clarified that no vaccination fee is being charged. He added that local production of the FMD vaccine has also eliminated the need for its import.

Mobile Veterinary Services
Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said that the Chief Minister of Punjab has inaugurated 47 new mobile veterinary dispensaries. Earlier, 206 mobile veterinary dispensaries were operational.
The target is to increase the number of these mobile units to 400 in the future. Modern facilities, including X-ray, ultrasound and blood test laboratories, are available in the mobile veterinary dispensaries. Weekly monitoring of these units, routes and driver details is being carried out through a digital dashboard.

With the livestock department initiatives, the current coverage of mobile veterinary dispensaries has reached 17 percent, which has been targeted to increase to 81 percent in the future.
Digitalization of Livestock Department Services
The provincial minister said that service delivery is being made transparent, effective and monitorable through digitalization related livestock department initiatives.
A record of services is being compiled through the 9211 system, while digital monitoring of the performance, routes and field activities of mobile veterinary dispensaries is also underway.
He said that the main objective of the Punjab government is to provide modern, timely and quality facilities to livestock farmers and ensure an increase in their income.
