Workshop on on Modern Breeding Technologies in Cattle at PARC
PARC and KOPIA organized a three-day training workshop on modern breeding technologies in cattle. This workshop was part of the futuristic project “Breed Improvement through Efficient Artificial Insemination Services by Using Korean Holstein Sexed Semen in Cattle”. Moreover, the Workshop was organized at the Animal Reproduction and Genetics program of the Animal Sciences Institute of PARC. Exports from Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture trained the human resource on modern breeding technologies in cattle.

Dr. Syed Murtaza Hassan Andrabi, Chief Scientist/Member Animal Sciences Division PARC and Director KOPIA Pakistan Dr. Cho Gyoungrae discussed different aspects of the cattle breeding program in Pakistan. Moreover, Korean expert Dr. Sung Jong Oh, Director of KOPIA, Uzbekistan trained the professionals during the workshop. Besides in-vitro fertilization, multiple ovulation and embryo transfer, experts also focused on estrus synchronization. They also focused on ex situ conservation in cattle and DNA Microarray. Furthermore, Experts of Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture also discussed different aspects of Korean Holstein Sexed Semen.

Experts emphasized devising strategies for cattle breeding program in Pakistan. They suggested crossbreeding of non-descript cattle with exotic high-producing cattle in a short-term strategy. On the other hand, for the long term strategy, they suggested focusing on the development of composite dairy cattle breeds. They also emphasized the application of modern breeding technologies in cattle breeding including embryo transfer technology.
