سلاٹر ہاؤس فضلے کا کھاد کے طور پر استعمال اور پیرا سائیٹس کا کنٹرول، ویٹرنری کالج نارووال میں سیمینار
KBCMA College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Narowal organized a seminar on strategic parasite control. The Parasitology Section of the Department of Pathobiology was the main organizer. This section of CVAS Naroval is working on the recycling of slaughterhouse waste. Furthermore, they are focusing on the use of abattoir waste as organic fertilizer. This seminar was organized under the project “Treatment of Abattoir Sludge for the Control of Parasitic Infection and Efficient Usage as Organic Fertilizer”. Pakistan Science Foundation is funding this project.

Use of Slaughterhouse Sludge as Organic Fertilizer
Farmers use abattoir sludge or abattoir waste in the raw form as a fertilizer. This is a rich source of different Parasites. It poses the risk of parasitic infection both in animals and humans. Therefore, it is crucial to treat slaughterhouse waste through composting techniques. Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Rizwan, principal investigator of the project, highlighted in the seminar. Under this project, they are working on use of abattoir waste as organic fertilizer after treatment.

Strategic Parasite Control in Livestock
Dr. Muhammad Imran Rashid of UVAS highlighted the Strategies to Control Parasitic Diseases. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of strategic parasite control in livestock. Not only chemotherapy but an integrated approach is required for success. He suggested pasture rotation for livestock grazing. He also talked about multi-species grazing. Furthermore, he highlighted the biological control. For this purpose, dung beetles & plough earthworms could help.
Moreover, Dr. Imran also suggested feeding the animals properly. Nutritional management through balanced feed and protein supplementation boosts immunity. Additionally, he focused on housing management and genetic selection. He also suggested the use of available vaccines against parasites for effective parasite control in livestock.

Controlling Arthropods and Arbo Diseases and Parasite Control
Dr. Muhammad Sohail Sajid of UAF discussed Controlling Arthropods and Arbo Diseases. Arthropods act as vectors of a variety of deadly pathogens. On the other hand, due to enormous genetic, proteomic, and metabolomic plasticity; arthropods resist an attack by the immune system of their host. Furthermore, they have adapted to the pressure of antiparasitic drugs. Therefore, he emphasized the genetic control of arthropods, especially ticks and mosquitoes.

Slaughterhouse Waste as Organic Fertilizer
Dr. Muhammad Naveed UAF talked about the Sustainable Management of Animal Waste as an Organic Fertilizer. His focus was on the recycling of slaughterhouse waste into pathogen-free organic fertilizer through alkaline hydrolysis rather than conventional compositing.
