Punjab cabinet approved Dog Birth Control Policy to control the stray dogs population
The provincial cabinet has approved the Dog Birth Control Policy. The policy was approved in the 51st meeting of the provincial cabinet of Punjab held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Khan Buzdar.
This decision will strengthen the measures taken by the Livestock Department to control the population of stray dogs and prevent them from becoming feral.
Dog Birth Control Policy
Under this policy, the traditional methods of killing stray dogs will not be adopted to control the number of stray dogs.
Under the new policy, the number of dogs will be controlled by working on the principle of Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return (TNVR).
In this process, stray dogs will be caught and sterilized so that they are not capable of producing children. After keeping them in care and vaccination, these dogs will be released again. This process will keep the number of dogs under control.
Appreciation by Activists
Animal rights organizations have thanked the Chief Minister of Punjab, Minister for Livestock Punjab Sardar Hasnain Bahadur Dareshak, Member of Provincial Assembly Aisha Iqbal and others for approving this policy.
In this regard, animal rights activist Aiza Haider says that our efforts have paid off. Thanks to this policy, no private or government institution will be allowed to kill dogs in Punjab.
She further says that with the approval of this policy, the number of dogs will be gradually controlled without any cruel measures and it will also help in rabies control.
