The wheel of the poultry industry will stop and the people of Pakistan will be deprived of cheap protein in the form of chicken and eggs. Further, the prices of milk and meat will also increase manifold. These views were expressed by Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf during a press conference at the National Press Club, Islamabad along with Mian Jan Muhammad Javed, Dr. Hassan Soroush Akram and others.
He said that if the ships are not released immediately, Pakistan’s poultry industry will end. Not only billions of rupees will be required to restore the poultry supply chain, but it will also take at least one and a half years. He said that if soybeans are not released, they will be forced to protest across the country with poultry farmers.
The participants of the press conference said that the poultry products supply chain cycle is a long-term project. The broiler breeding operation starts with the grand parent flocks and it takes about 16 months from the placement of the broiler chicks to the production of the broiler chickens as a result of the parent flocks. If for any reason this cycle is broken, it takes a huge amount of money and time to bring the production back to this level. It also takes a huge amount of money and 5 to 6 months to restore the cycle of the layer flocks from which the eggs are obtained.
The participants demanded that the additional tax imposed on the poultry industry in the recent past be withdrawn. Like more agricultural farmers, poultry farmers should also be provided with electricity at a concessional price, unlike commercial and expensive rates. They said that the details in this regard have already been sent to the Ministry of Commerce.
Participants said that the non-release of soybeans will stop the production of feed, which will also prevent the consumption of corn and this will also affect a large number of agricultural farmers. The unavailability of more soybeans will also have an impact on livestock feed, which will affect the production of milk and meat and increase their prices.
