Pakistan-China Livestock Partnership Strengthens Through Successful China Visit
The recent visit to China has proven highly successful for Pakistan’s livestock sector. Chairman of the Green Corporate Livestock Initiative (GCLI), Major General (R) Shahid Mahmood, visited China as a member of the official delegation accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. During the visit, Pakistan and China signed agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth more than $45 million in the fields of livestock, vaccines, biotechnology, genetic improvement, meat exports, and dairy development. This will increase the investment, job opportunities, and Livestock Exports to China, including meat export.
GCLI Represents Pakistan’s Livestock Sector at China-Pakistan Investment Conference
Chairman GCLI Major General (R) Shahid Mahmood represented Pakistan’s livestock sector at the Pakistan-China Business-to-Business (B2B) Investment Conference held in Hangzhou. Additional Director Livestock GCLI Lieutenant Colonel (R) Shah Nawaz accompanied him during the visit.
The conference was attended by 15 leading companies associated with Pakistan’s livestock industry. Chairman of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), Dr. Murtaza Hasan Andrabi, along with other senior officials, was also present at the event.

Major Agreements Signed for Livestock Exports to China
During the visit, GCLI signed a $6 million agreement with China’s YanFU Group for the export of donkey meat and related products. Another agreement worth $1 million was finalized with Zhonglu International Trade Company, with the potential to increase annual trade volume to $4 million.

In addition, Pakistani company Tazij Meat and YanFU Group signed a $10 million agreement for the export of Pakistani beef to China, further strengthening bilateral meat trade between the two countries.

Significant Progress in Livestock Biotechnology and Vaccine Development
The visit also resulted in major advancements in livestock biotechnology and vaccine development.
PATCO (PARC Agrotech Company) and Chinese biotechnology company TheraRNA signed a $10 million agreement for the development of artificial intelligence-powered mRNA vaccine technology.
Furthermore, agreements were concluded with LASO Biotech Agri and BIO Pharmave to support livestock genetic improvement and animal vaccine research:
- A $5 million agreement with LASO Biotech Agri for genotyping and breed improvement projects.
- A $3 million agreement with BIO Pharmave for research and development of animal vaccines.
Dairy and Vaccine Research Collaboration Expands
Dyzee Farms and Shanghai Shenlian Ltd agreed to collaborate on vaccine research and development through a $10 million partnership.
The visit also facilitated several business engagements related to the export of livestock products, including buffalo milk and camel milk. Chinese company Royal Group expressed interest in importing Pakistani buffalo sexed semen straws and initiated preliminary discussions with GCLI regarding potential cooperation.
Visit of TECON Research and Development Center
As part of the visit, Chairman GCLI Major General (R) Shahid Mahmood toured the Research and Development Center of TECON, one of China’s leading vaccine manufacturers.
TECON is currently working with Pakistani company Technoman Kinetics, with support from GCLI, to establish a Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine production facility in Karachi.
During the discussions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the agreed implementation timeline for the FMD vaccine plant. They also agreed to begin laboratory and field trials of the vaccine in July 2026.
Increasing Livestock Exports and Investment
Speaking about the outcomes of the visit, Chairman GCLI Major General (R) Shahid Mahmood stated that the visit marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation between Pakistan and China in livestock development, biotechnology, and vaccine manufacturing.

He emphasized that these agreements will not only increase Pakistan’s livestock exports to China but will also contribute to local vaccine production, livestock genetic improvement, technology transfer, employment generation, and increased investment in Pakistan’s livestock sector.
