Lumpy Skin Disease is a skin disease of cows and it cannot be transmitted from animals to humans. The effects of this virus on human health are not possible. The meat and milk of animals affected by lumpy skin are not harmful to human health. The public can consume the meat and milk of affected animals without fear and danger. These views were expressed by Animal Husbandry Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Akram at the National Press Club, Islamabad.
According to the details, a press conference was organized by the President of All Pakistan Jamiat Al-Quresh Meat Welfare Association at the National Press Club, Islamabad. On this occasion, along with the Animal Husbandry Commissioner, former Registrar Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council and Vice Chairman Technical Committee Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association Pakistan, Dr. Alamdar Hussain Malik, President All Pakistan Jamiat Al-Quresh Meat Welfare Association and Director Livestock and Dairy Development Board Khurshid Ahmed Qureshi, Director Livestock and Dairy Development Board Jamil Memon, Director Livestock and Dairy Development Board Nighat Javed, Dr. Zahid Quddus Bhutta, President Islamabad Fresh Milk Association Muzaffar Qureshi, Senior Vice President Jamiat Al-Quresh Meat Welfare Association Javed Qureshi, Secretary General Jamiat Al-Quresh Meat Welfare Association Sardar Zaheer Ahmed, Secretary Information Islamabad Iqbal Qureshi, Haji Rahat Javed of Jamiat Al-Quresh Rawalpindi, Haji Shahid Qureshi, Wahid Qureshi, Nasir Qureshi and others were also present.
Dr. Alamdar Hussain Malik said that the World Organization for Animal Health has also confirmed in one of its reports that the meat and milk of the affected animal are not harmful to human health. He said that the milk of the animal affected by lumpy skin is gone, so it is not appropriate to do so much negative propaganda.
He said that it is the responsibility of the concerned federal and provincial governments to formulate an effective strategy to stop negative propaganda about milk and meat and to start a public awareness campaign on the national media in this regard.
President of All Pakistan Jamiat-ul-Quresh Meat Welfare Association and Director of Livestock and Dairy Development Board Khurshid Ahmed Qureshi stressed that the media has a very heavy responsibility to avoid negative news because livestock farmers have been badly affected. Do not add to their problems with negative news. The media should fulfill its responsibilities in a positive manner so that the farmers affected by the flood disasters are not further destroyed. He said that due to negative propaganda about meat, meat sales are decreasing and meat shops are being forced to close.
He said that if the relevant institutions do not show responsibility in this regard, the meat market as well as the livestock sector will have to face huge losses.
Jamil Memon said that at present, the districts of Sindh, Balochistan, South Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been affected by floods in which livestock has completely disappeared. Due to this flood, the country’s economy has faced huge losses because the death of millions of animals has devastated the livestock sector. These deaths have caused a loss of about $ 20 billion. Farmers whose livelihood is raising livestock have been devastated.
President Islamabad Fresh Milk Association Syed Muzaffar Hassan Hashmi said that at this time it is necessary that the federal government should help livestock farmers and announce a special package at the national level by estimating the loss of livestock due to floods and lumpy skin disease. The participants unanimously drew attention to the fact that negative propaganda regarding the consumption of milk and meat should not be paid attention to and such elements should be discouraged. More media should show responsibility in this regard and the federal government should start a public awareness campaign on the national media.
