This disease can lead to a decrease in milk production, permanent damage to the skin and fur, infertility in young animals, while the disease can also lead to the death of the animal.

The virus of the disease has been isolated for the preparation of a vaccine for Lumpy Skin Disease under the National Biotechnology Program at the National Institute of Genome and Advanced Biotechnology (NIGAB) of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council. Dr. Tahira Kamal isolated the virus along with Dr. Naeem Riaz, Dr. Murtaza Hassan And Rabi, Dr. Ambrain Gul and other team members. Director Animal Sciences Institute Dr. Murtaza Hassan Andrabi says that molecular diagnosis of the disease from the virus and isolation of its virus are time-consuming. This disease, which has rapid spread and economic impacts, is from the pox family (Poxviridae).
