Stakeholders met to advance Local Production of FMD Vaccine in Pakistan

A high level meeting held for the local production of FMD Vaccine at National Veterinary Laboratory. This meeting was under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Green Corporate Livestock Initiative (GCLI), TECHON China, and Technoman Pakistan. This meeting on Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine production was organized by GCLI. Chairman GCLI, Major General (R) Shahid Mahmood, chaired the meeting.

Participants included experts and officials from the National Veterinary Laboratory, Ministry of National Food Security & Research (MNFS&R), Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), and other relevant technical institutions.

Meeting on Local Production of FMD Vaccine

As part of this strategic collaboration, a delegation of technical experts from TECHON China held important discussion with key stakeholders in Pakistan to advance the establishment of the FMD vaccine production facility. Discussions focused on critical aspects including vaccine production, laboratory testing, trial phases, plant approval, facility design, commissioning, and regulatory compliance.

Local Production of FMD Vaccine

During the meeting, the roadmap for laboratory testing and trial phases of the FMD vaccine was finalized. These activities will be carried out through collaboration between the National Veterinary Laboratory and the Ministry of National Food Security & Research.

Arrangements for Production Plant

DRAP representatives also briefed participants on the three-stage regulatory approval process required for vaccine registration. This includes approval of the plant site in the first phase, approval of the plant design in the second phase, and issuance of the manufacturing license in the final phase.

Important technical documents related to FMD vaccine production were formally handed over to the concerned institutions during the session. Participants also agreed to continue a series of technical coordination meetings at the National Veterinary Laboratory to ensure timely completion of the project and effective inter-institutional collaboration.

Experts believe that local production of FMD vaccine in Pakistan will be a landmark achievement for the livestock sector. It is expected to significantly strengthen disease control, reduce reliance on imported vaccines, save valuable foreign exchange, and contribute positively to the national economy.
