The Markhor habitat is Chitral, Hunza, Ghizer, and Kashmir in Pakistan Including the south Himalayas and Afghanistan. Moreover, it also exists in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. In extreme cold, it comes to the low high areas.

Its average age is 10-13 years. Male has a certain smell which is helpful for the hunters. Its speed is 17 kilometers per hour and it can jump to 8 feet. It may also climb up the tree.

Markhor Trophy Hunting is issued by the Wildlife Department. It is an expensive license. The government issued this in Nov-April for Chitral, Gilgit, Baltistan, Kohistan and other areas. This license started in 1998 in KPK.

82% of the earnings from this license are utilized for local community development. Moreover, local community organizations utilize this with the assurance the Markhor conservation activities. This is a successful activity that has improved the Markhor population. Moreover, IUCN has also acknowledged the increase in the population of this national animal of Pakistan.
