The Ministry of National Food Security and Research has referred the case of an officer involved in the alleged livestock smuggling of a large number of halal animals to the FIA for investigation.
The Ministry of National Food Security has requested an investigation against the Quarantine Officer (Quarantine Officer) and a private company. According to sources, a Grade 18 officer of the Ministry of National Food Security in Karachi was sending animals to Qatar, Dubai and other Gulf countries in collusion with a private company since 2013, while the ECC had banned the sending of goods at that time.
Thus, more than 10,000 animals were smuggled to the Gulf countries, on which a departmental inquiry was conducted against the concerned officer in which he was found guilty, while the inquiry was sent to the Prime Minister’s Complaints Cell. In the departmental investigation, it was found that the said officer sent animals abroad in collaboration with a private company and during this time the national exchequer suffered a huge loss.
In a letter sent to DG FIA on March 27, 2019 by the officials of the Ministry of National Food Security, it has been stated that the above officer and the private company illegally exported livestock abroad, irregularities and discrepancies came to light during the investigation, after which the inquiry officer recommended sending the matter to the FIA. The Ministry of National Food Security and the Secretary have approved sending the matter to the FIA, following the recommendations of the inquiry officer.
