Historical Livestock Rescue Operation, Minister  Livestock reviewed the Flood Relief Facilities

An important joint meeting of the Livestock Department and the Agriculture Department was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani in which a detailed review of the facilities provided at the Livestock flood relief camps was taken in view of the flood situation. Secretary Livestock Ahmed Aziz Tarar, Director General Livestock, and other senior officers also attended the meeting. The Livestock Department has carried out the historical livestock rescue operation.

During the meeting, the Director General Livestock gave a detailed briefing about the activities of the department at the livestock flood relief camps established across the province. On this occasion, Secretary Livestock Ahmed Aziz Tarar informed the provincial minister that the staff of the Livestock Department is providing services in the field round the clock, and a vaccination campaign is underway in the flood-affected areas to protect animals from water-borne diseases. He also presented details about the distribution of rations and other facilities.

According to the spokesperson for the Livestock Department, 477 flood relief camps are active in the affected districts of the province, where 3178 personnel and 175 MVD teams are deployed. So far, 35,000 flood wanda bags have been distributed in the flood-affected areas, while 9,500 bags (20 kg packaging) have been provided on a cost-to-cost basis at the relief centers. In addition, more than 21,000 wanda bags have been distributed by the Deputy Commissioners.

The Livestock Department has provided 1,251 tons of fodder, silage and straw at the local level, while green fodder (green grass) is available in 344 relief camps. 29 essential medicines for the treatment of animals are available in the camps and the vaccination process is also ongoing as per the schedule. So far, more than 1.5 lakh animals have been treated, of which more than 13,000 animals were provided medical facilities in the last 24 hours. Similarly, the vaccination of more than 7 lakh cattle has been completed so far, while 44,000 animals have been vaccinated in the last 24 hours alone.

The department further said that 1.3 million livestock have been shifted to safe places from the flood-affected areas so far, while, unfortunately, 928 animals have been reported dead. The Provincial Flood Monitoring Cell is active 24/7 in Lahore to directly monitor the situation and is continuously monitoring all relief activities.
