Livestock Breeders Forum organized by SAU Tandojam and Sindh HEC
Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam in collaboration with the Sindh Higher Education Commission organized the Livestock Breeders Forum in Karachi. The forum focused on improving livestock breeds for profitable farming. Experts highlighted the potential of local livestock breeds of Sindh and presented suggestions for improving the breeds and taking advantage of them. Experts also highlighted various aspects related to livestock breeding legislation.
Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Sindh Muhammad Ali Malkani was the chief guest. Chairman Sindh Higher Education Commission Dr. SM Tariq Rafi, Vice Chancellor Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam Prof. Dr. Fateh Marri, Vice Chancellor University of Agriculture Faisalabad Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan, Former Secretary Livestock and Fisheries Dr. Baz Muhammad Junejo, Dr. Masuda Kazunori from the Japanese Consulate, Dean Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences Dr. Syed Ghiyasuddin Shah Rashidi, Dr. Nazir Hussain Kalhoro, Dr. Parshottam Khatri, Dr. Hizbullah Bhutto, Dr. Huma Rizvi and others participated.

Representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, officers of the Livestock Department Sindh, and faculty members of various universities also participated.
Discussion at Livestock Breeders Forum
Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani highlighted the challenges faced by local livestock breeds of Sindh. He emphasized the active role of the Sindh Breeding Authority for artificial insemination, modern technology, and quality breeding.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Fateh Marri stressed the importance of conserving indigenous livestock breeds of Sindh including Red Sindhi Cow and Kandi Buffalo and highlighted the Sindh government’s long-term plan to improve livestock breeding. He said that countries like Brazil and Russia have significantly increased milk production from Sindhi Red Cow by working on genetics. With these steps, we can strengthen the livestock sector in Pakistan.

Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan and former Secretary Livestock and Fisheries Dr. Baz Muhammad Junejo also discussed the challenges and opportunities related to the livestock sector.

Provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah specially attended the closing ceremony of the two-day forum. Recommendations regarding livestock breed improvement and livestock breeding legislation were presented in the closing session.
