A story of cruelty, of brutality. The beginning is also far away and the end is not near. The hearing of the listeners may respond; the eyes of the viewers may sometimes get tired, the pen of the writers may get agitated, the steps of the supporters may falter, but the characters of this story are still alive today with hearts beating for Pakistan. Neither a lapse in will, nor a decrease in the intensity of emotions. The story continues. Yes, it will definitely end, but with freedom.
The Background and History of Kashmir
The region of the Indian subcontinent where the Hindu king became Muslim after being influenced by a saint and the candle of Islam was lit in this region. Declaring the region a paradise, the Mughals as well as the Afghans made it part of their power. During Ranjit Singh’s rule in Punjab, Kashmir was occupied by the Sikhs and then the story of cruelty began from here.
Oppression During Sikh Rule
Although Kashmiris were affected by the oppression of the rulers to some extent before this, the Sikhs made life impossible for Kashmiris and with time the atrocities increased. The suppression of the call to prayer, ban on Friday gatherings, locking of mosques, death penalty for cow sacrifice, heavy taxes on the local shawl weaving industry and other activities, and strict punishment for killing a Hindu while light punishment for killing a Muslim were the atrocities that the Muslims here endured.
Dogra Rule and Continued Suffering
When the Sikh government was overthrown in the historic battle between the Sikhs and the British in Punjab, the state of Kashmir was sold to the British by the Raja of Kashmir, in exchange for some money and other new institutions as a reward for loyalty. Raja Gulab Singh of the Dogra dynasty further increased the oppression of Kashmiri Muslims after becoming the Maharaja.
Kashmir at the Time of Partition
Although various movements continued to emerge from Kashmir during the Pakistan Movement and during this time the Qadianis also tried to make it a separate state, this conspiracy was foiled thanks to the foresight of Allama Iqbal and other leaders. At the time of the Partition of India, Kashmiri Muslims wanted to go with Pakistan, but Raja Hari Singh Dogra announced accession to India and called the Indian army for help. After this announcement, the movements that were already rising against the Maharaja gained momentum and the civil war intensified. On the other hand, Pakistani soldiers also entered the field to fight the Indian army. Muslim Mujahideen and the Pakistani army fought the Indian army together and the fighting continued for about a year and a half, as a result of which Azad Kashmir was achieved. During this time, as a result of a UN resolution, a ceasefire was declared in Kashmir and the line separating occupied Kashmir from Azad Kashmir was named the “Line of Control”.
The United Nations Resolution
According to the UN resolution, the people of Pakistan were to return from Kashmir, some army was to remain in Kashmir for administrative purposes and it was to be decided according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people which country they wanted to go with. Contrary to the implementation of this resolution, the Indian army occupied Jammu and Kashmir and its number increased from time to time. On the other hand, no referendum has been held to know the opinion of the Kashmiris till date.
The Continuing Conflict
Three wars have been fought between Pakistan and India while the Line of Control continues to be violated. On the other hand, the story of oppression and oppression of the Kashmiris, which started with the occupation of the Sikhs, continues till today and has increased in intensity with time.
Those pro-Indian Kashmiri leaders who ruled Kashmir through so-called elections have recently stood against the state due to the actions of the Modi government. The biased decision of the Modi government has turned every Kashmiri against the Indian government. The atrocities of the Indian army in Kashmir have reached their peak and the valley has become a prison where the curfew that has been going on for many days has deprived the people of their basic human rights.
The Sentiments of Kashmiri Muslims
Despite all its efforts, India has not been able to eradicate the love of Pakistan from the hearts of Kashmiri Muslims. Today, the third generation of Kashmiris is fighting the Indian army. This generation did not raise the slogan of freedom inspired by any story or history book, but hatred of India and the Indian army has become part of their blood. Even today, the slogan of Kashmiri Muslims is “Our right is freedom, we will carry it, Kashmir will become Pakistan.”
