ISOCARD Executive Body
Dr. Asim Faraz elected as Public Relation Officer of ISOCARD Executive Body announced in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Asim Faraz from Pakistan has been elected as the Public Relations Officer of the International Society for Camel Research and Development (ISOCARD). The society elected its Executive Committee for the year 2023-26 on the occasion of its 6th International Conference held in Saudi Arabia.

ISOCARD Executive Body
Rafat Al-Jassim from Australia as Chairman, Pamela Berger from Austria as Vice Chairman, Mufida Ateghi from Tunisia as Secretary General, Dr. Asim Faraz from Pakistan as Public Relations Officer, Yili from China as Scientific Officer, and Abdul Malik Saghri from Morocco as Treasurer will be part of the new Executive Committee. Dr. Asim Faraz presented the newly elected office bearers with Pakistan’s traditional Ajrak.
Camels Roles in Food Security
The 6th International Conference on the Role of Camels in Food Security and Economic Development organized by the International Society for Camel Research and Development was held at King Faisal University Al-Ahsa in collaboration with the Camel Research Center, Saudi Veterinary Medical Society and Salam Veterinary Group.
Technical sessions, various workshops of the International Camel Consortium for Genetic Improvement and Conservation (ICC-GIC) and talks by international camel experts from different countries were part of the conference.

Dr. Asim Faraz represented the Livestock and Poultry Production Department of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, as well as the Camel Association of Pakistan (CAP), Pakistan Camel Club (PCC), Camel Society of Pakistan (CSP) and Traditional Sports and Games Association of Pakistan (TSGPA).
Importance of Pakistani Camels
At the conference, Dr. Asim Faraz discussed the productivity of Pakistan’s Maricha camel in the desert ecosystem and the fundamental role of camels in food security. He also presented a poster on the positive effects of camel milk in fatty liver disease. He spoke about research on camels and related activities in interviews given to Saudi and Chinese TV. He highlighted the role of camels in food security in desert and semi-desert ecosystems in the context of climate change. Moreover, he also highlighted the traditional importance of camels in sports, riding, racing, beauty pageants and acrobatics.
Dr. Asim Faraz, along with other experts, visited Al-Fahad Camel Farm and Salam Veterinary Group’s state-of-the-art veterinary hospital and adjacent farms. Dr. Asim Faraz said that he is committed to representing Pakistan internationally in the field of camel research in the future as well.
