The Punjab government has decided to organize a Horse and Cattle Show to revive the traditional and cultural memories of the past for the citizens of Lahore. The show is being held at the Fortress Stadium, Lahore on March 10-12. Earlier, the National Horse and Cattle Show was organized on a relatively limited scale in 2015, while it was last organized in a completely traditional manner in 2004. That is, after about seventeen years, the citizens of Lahore will enjoy this traditional fair.
History of Horse and Cattle Show
If we look at history of horse and cattle show, according to a report by Dawn News, the livestock fair was started in 1952 as a Hunt Show at the Race Course Club Ground. The first National Horse and Cattle Show was organized at the Fortress Stadium in 1964.
This show has been attended by many international celebrities, including top political and social figures of Pakistan, as well as heads of different countries. This fair, which has a distinct identity at the global level, was interrupted for several years due to terrorism. It is hoped that the series of events that have resumed will continue, God willing.
Livestock Show on National Horse and Cattle Show
Livestock march, hunting dog race, horse stunts, pet dog show, pet animal exhibition, horse dance, camel dance, bird show and spear throwing are being organized at the Horse and Cattle Show organized by the Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab.
Beautiful breeds of cows, buffaloes, sheep, goats, camels and horses will be presented in the livestock exhibition parade.Earlier, production and beauty competitions of different breeds of Sahiwal breed cows, Blue Ravi breed buffaloes and sheep and goats have also been organized by the Livestock Department. These competitions were organized in the form of fairs in connection with the Horse and Cattle Show at Bahadur Nagar Farm, Okara and Buffalo Research Institute, Pattoki. The owners of the animals who won in these competitions will be awarded prizes at the main event of the Horse and Cattle Show.
Other Activities at National Horse and Cattle Show
The daytime activities include army band, traditional dance, provincial sportsmen’s march, livestock exhibition parade, camel and horse dance, spear fighting, horse jumping, dog show, police demonstration and free fall paratrooping. In the evening, along with horse dance and camel dance, torch parade, candle parade, peace show and laser show will be organized.
There will also be a spectacular fireworks display on this occasion. Along with the exhibition of pets and birds for public interest, food stalls will also be available. Along with gymnastics and various sports, the Horse and Cattle Show will also highlight the culture of different provinces.
On the occasion of the Horse and Cattle Show, the Parks and Horticulture Authority is also organizing an exhibition in Jilani Park on the occasion of Jashn Baharan, where various stalls will be set up. On this occasion, various music programs will also continue at Alhamra Art Council. On the occasion of Jashn Baharan, Lahore city, especially Canal Road and adjoining roads, will be decorated with electric lights.
Instructions for the Public
Entry to this three-day festival is free for citizens. Only families will be allowed to enter after 4:30 pm. It has been made mandatory to carry a Corona vaccination certificate along with an identity card for entry. As per the instructions issued by the Punjab government, parking arrangements have been made for vehicles at specific places adjacent to the Polo Ground behind the Army Museum and Tufail Colony. Parking arrangements for motorcycles have been made at the Cantt Railway Station.
People will be taken to the stadium from the parking area by shuttle service. Along with this, special shuttle service will also be arranged from eleven places in the city including City Bus Terminal, Sikandariya Colony, Campus, Thokar Niaz Beg, Jallo, Qurtaba Chowk, Shalimar Chowk, Chungi Dogage, Scheme Mor, Bedian Road, Qainchi and Minar Pakistan. The shuttle service for the first show will run at 8 am and for the second show at 5 pm.
