Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, AJK University of Bhimber
Azad Jammu and Kashmir University of Bhimber was established in 2023. Previously it was the sub-campus of Mirpur University of Science and Technology. After upgrading to University, it also established the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. This FVAS Bhimber is offering a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM Program and other programs.
FVAS Bhimber was initially established in 2020 at the Bhimber campus of Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST). Now it is an integral part of this new university.
Programs Offered by FVAS Bhimber
FVAS offers undergraduate programs and Diploma Courses in Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Currently, Faculty is offering:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM Program
- A 5-year professional degree program focused on animal health, diagnostics, surgery, and preventive care. It covers hands-on clinical experience and compulsory internship. Veterinary graduates are equipped with the knowledge and experience to offer services in diverse fields of the animal sector in Pakistan.
BS in Animal Sciences
- It is a four-year program covering animal production including nutrition, breeding and genetics, and management. It prepares students to in the field of animal production and management. These graduates offer services in the field of commercial livestock production projects including dairy farming, poultry farming, feed industry, and farm inputs.
Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD)
- A 2-year diploma is designed to train students as to assist veterinary professional and livestock production professionals. This is a skill development-based program that emphasizes practical skills as a veterinary assistant.
Department of Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Bhimber
Department of Veterinary Sciences
The Department of Veterinary Sciences at FVAS Azad Jammu and Kashmir University of Bhimber covers the subjects of veterinary sciences including basic subjects and clinical subjects. This program is mainly involved in the teaching of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM Program. The department covers the following subjects:
- Anatomy and Histology
- Physiology and Pharmacology
- Microbiology, Parasitology and Pathology
- Veterinary Medicine and Surgery
- Theriogenology
The focus of this department is on clinical and pre-clinical training with a deep understanding of diagnostics, treatment, surgery, and preventive healthcare. The department is equipped with the laboratories required for the training and research. In the future, this department will also offer postgraduate programs.
Department of Animal Sciences
The Department of Animal Sciences offers programs for veterinary students and animal science students. It is also offering a four-year program of BS Animal Sciences. This department covers the following subjects:
- Animal Nutrition
- Animal Breeding and Genetics
- Livestock Management
- Poultry Science
The objective of this department is to impart professional training to students for commercial livestock projects. The department equips the students with deep understanding of livestock production and advanced husbandry practices.
