Camel Birth – First camel calf through Artificial Insemination in camel produced in Pakistan. This was the project of University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Livestock Department. Researchers Team for Artificial Insemination in Camel
According to the details, a team led by the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, comprising the teachers of the Department of Theriogenology, Dr. Salman Waqas, Dr. Anjum Masood, and M.Phil scholars Chaudhry Yaqoob, Danish Aziz, Asim Shabbir, and Asif Ali, has successfully experimented with artificial insemination of a camel and the birth of a healthy baby.
The efforts of the team from the Livestock and Dairy Development Department of the Government of Punjab are also included. The team from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, worked on artificial insemination at the Camel Breeding and Research Station, Rakhmahni, District Bhakkar. The center’s staff, including Dr. Imtiaz Hussain, Dr. Muhammad Shahid Jamil, Dr. Bilqis Haider and others, and paramedical staff were also involved in this research. They expressed satisfaction over the birth of a healthy baby camel.
Camel Birth and Significance of Artificial Insemination in Camel
The total population of camels is about 1.1 million, while Pakistan is the 8th largest camel-breeding country in the world. He said that artificial insemination in the field of theriogenology requires special training and expertise, which he acquired internationally as a consultant embryo transfer and artificial insemination specialist in Abu Dhabi.
He appreciated the hard work of his fellow scientists Dr. Salman Waqas, Dr. Anjum Masood and MPhil scholars Chaudhry Yaqoob, Danish Aziz, Asim Shabbir and Asif Ali and said that as a result of this research, it will be possible to promote the best breed of camels and ensure an increase in meat and milk. He further urged veterinary scientists to come forward to promote this technique and create the necessary mechanisms for it so that profitable trends can be introduced in the camel-breeding business.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Prof. Dr. Asif Tanveer, while congratulating the university scientists on this success, expressed the hope that in terms of food security, the development of a superior breed of camel, and increasing meat and milk production, they will be able to translate certain results into fruits. He termed this success as an important step towards the survival of the endangered breed of camels.
He expressed the hope that the experiment of giving birth to a female camel through artificial insemination will not only prove to be a starting point for developing a new breed of healthy camels but will also open new avenues of research. He congratulated the team on their success.
