Handling, transporting, storing, and thawing of frozen semen is very important. It is important that the frozen semen is not damaged before or during the thawing process.

Dr. Ashar said that mares usually develop follicles between 40 and 50 mm in size before ovulation. Some mares ovulate small follicles while others, especially in draft breeds, usually develop very large follicles (50-60 mm) before ovulation.

Benefits of Artificial Insemination in Equine

Dr. Ashar said that artificial insemination in mare is an excellent option for horse breeders because in this process there is no need to move the horse from one place to another and many mares can be crossed with one horse. In this method, the horse and the mare are also protected from diseases that can be transmitted during natural sexual intercourse.

He said that the success of artificial insemination in mare in Pakistan is welcome for the veterinary reproduction sector. Breeders of Arabian and Desi mares in Pakistan will be able to benefit from this technology.
