UVAS organized Dairy Forum in collaboration with Livestock Department Punjab
The Department of Dairy Technology, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, in collaboration with the Department of Livestock, organized a Dairy Forum at a local hotel in Lahore under the Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers and Industry Stakeholders on Country Value Chain Project.
The forum was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Professor Dr. Talat Naseer Pashan. The forum was attended by Chairman Ukhwat Foundation Dr. Amjad Saqib, Additional Secretary Livestock (Admin) Khizar Hayat, Vice Chancellor Veterinary University Prof. Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Additional Director General Operations Punjab Food Authority Saba Adil, Ghulam Mustafa Dogar, President Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association Shakir Umar Gujjar, General Secretary of Buffalo Breeders Association Punjab Pakistan Engineer Samiullah and Chairperson Department of Animal Nutrition Prof. Dr. Saima, along with stakeholders from across the country, researchers, teachers and students from educational institutions, representatives from public and private dairy industry, livestock farmers, dairy professionals and officials of the Livestock Department.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Dairy Forum, Dr. Amjad Saqib said that if we focus on the development of agriculture and livestock sectors in our country, we will never need IMF assistance.
He said that Ukhout Foundation is providing financial assistance to farmers and is ready to collaborate with the Veterinary University in this regard.

Dairy Forum Calls for Consumer Awareness and Food Safety
Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha urged the Dairy Forum participants to launch a social media campaign to create consumer awareness and remove the outdated misconceptions in the minds of the public about value-added dairy and poultry products.
He said that special attention needs to be paid to food safety and food security. Professor Pasha appreciated the efforts of the Veterinary University for organizing the Dairy Forum in a brilliant manner to discuss the issues of dairy stakeholders and establish mutual networking.
Commitment to Dairy Sector
Professor Dr. Naseem Ahmed said that the Veterinary University is working closely with the dairy, poultry, meat and livestock industries and is always trying to solve the problems faced by the livestock sector by utilizing its expert manpower.
Additional Secretary Livestock Khizar Hayat said that the Livestock Department is playing its role in collaboration with the university for the development and promotion of the dairy sector. Also, the department is taking all possible steps to make the dairy sector more active.
Reviews of Capacity Building Project Achievements at
Dairy Forum
Earlier, Project Director Dr. Muhammad Junaid briefed the participants in detail about the results and achievements of the Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers and Industry Stakeholders on Milk Value Chain Project in the year 2021-22.
At the end of the Dairy Forum, a technical session was also held on the topic of sustainability, in which various aspects related to the issues faced by the dairy sector and their solutions were discussed.
Milk Value Addition, Cheese Making and Farmer Support
At the Dairy Forum, experts shared their views with the participants on the importance of milk value addition and milk value chain for making the dairy sector active in Pakistan, steps to reduce the cost of milk production, cheese making, the achievements of the capacity building project, microfinancing for farmers and other aspects.
On this occasion, the forum participants were also informed about the role and efforts of the Department of Dairy Technology of the Veterinary University regarding the development of the dairy sector in Pakistan.
