Community of Practice Workshop organized by Dairy Beef Project Team
The Dairy Beef Project Team of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with the University of Melbourne organized a Community of Practice Workshop at a local hotel in Lahore. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naseem Ahmed.
The event was attended by Project Manager Dairy Beef Project Dr. Humira Iqbal, Dr. Hassan Mahmood Warraich, Dr. David McGill, Kateline Hight and Margaret Ayer, as well as heads of various institutions, representatives, experts and researchers. Dr. Amjad Saqib, Chairman of Akhuwat, also specially attended the event.
Objectives of Workshop
The aim of the workshop was to inform various institutions and organizations about the results of extension services involving family participation based on data including farm advisors and case studies and to find opportunities to continue activities based on family participation in the future.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naseem Ahmed said that even after the completion of the Dairy Beef Project, activities under extension services should be continued at the family level.

Community of Practice Workshop Discussion
Dr. Amjad, Chairman of Akhuwat Foundation, said that farm production in Kasur district has improved due to the results obtained from the extension and research activities of the Dairy Beef Project on the basis of support and cooperation. He said that he is also interested in disseminating the results of the project to other communities and districts.

Dr. David McGill explained the objectives of the workshop and introduced the project team. Dr. Humaira Iqbal discussed the latest status of the project in terms of the project’s focused objectives, ensuring the general role of women, future action plan and other aspects. Dr. Hassan Mahmood Warraich highlighted the impact of capacity building of farm advisors based on family participation in the existing livestock advisory services system.
Details of Dairy Beef Project
It should be noted that the Dairy Beef Project is underway under the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research in collaboration with the University of Veterinary Sciences Lahore and the University of Melbourne, Australia.
Under this project, training and other activities are organized at the rural level involving the entire family for the improvement of the livestock sector. Research is also underway on the impact of these activities on the farming system at the family level, the results of which are also shared with other institutions and organizations.
Concept of Community of Practice
It should be noted that in the concept of a community of practice, different professionals come together in one place or online under a specific topic or purpose where each other’s experiences and knowledge are shared and various issues are discussed. In this process, everyone tries to learn to improve their knowledge and benefit from new experiences.
