Dairy Beef Project Team of UVAS organized National Livestock Forum. Experts around the country joined this forum. International experts were also the part of this forum. They discussed different aspects of livestock and dairy development. They put recommendations for livestock development and dairy development in Pakistan.

The Dairy Beef and Small Ruminant Project Team of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore and the University of Melbourne, Australia jointly organized the National Livestock Forum in Islamabad. Vice Chancellor Veterinary University Lahore Prof. Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Vice Chancellor Sindh Agriculture University Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri and Vice Chancellor University of Education Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha, along with extension managers, heads of educational and research institutions, representatives of social organizations, farmers and various personalities from the private sector attended the forum.
Dr. David McGill, Dr. Angus Campbell and Dr. Anna Barrett, as well as Dr. Humaira Iqbal, Dr. Hassan Mahmood Warraich and other members of the Dairy Beef Project Team also attended the forum.
Experts’ Discussion at National Livestock Forum
While talking to the participants, the project leaders presented the background of the project work in the dairy beef and especially sheep and goat sector of Pakistan. They also discussed the objectives of the forum. The team also talked about the ten-year activities in the livestock sector.
Dr. Humaira and Dr. Haroon discussed the traditional livestock system of Pakistan and highlighted the problems of small farmers and the project’s initiatives to solve them. The importance of the role of women and family in livestock development was also highlighted on this occasion. Training Manager Abdul Aziz discussed the project’s support for small farmers in forming small farm business groups and its impact.
Dr. David highlighted the problems of small farmers and the importance of solving them at the local level.
A drama was also presented on this occasion regarding the problems of farmers.
Dairy Sectors Problems highlighted at National Livestock Forum
The aim of this drama was to highlight the problems of dairy and beef farming and sheep and goat farmers.
It was further explained how farm advisory services of government and non-government institutions as well as research and welfare institutions can improve the situation of livestock farming and how further improvement can be brought about through extension at the family level.
On this occasion, the project team also set up stalls with different themes regarding the objectives of the project, in which the participants expressed keen interest.
Appreciation Team
Vice Chancellor University of Education Professor Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha appreciated the performance of the project team. He expressed the hope that the relevant national institutions will continue the project activities keeping in mind the benefits of small farmers.
It should be noted that the Dairy Beef Project in Pakistan has been working in collaboration with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) for the last fifteen years.
