First International Conference on Yak in Pakistan held at Lahore. Virtual University of Pakistan organized this conference. Besides yak feeding, yak breeding and yak management, experts also discussed other topics. They also focused on Yak meat and Yak milk. Collaborators of First International Conference on Yak
The first international conference on Yak was organized in Lahore by the Department of Molecular Biology of the Virtual University of Pakistan in collaboration with various institutions including the Aga Khan Rural Support Program, Department of Livestock, Pak Wildlife Foundation, Karakoram International University, University of Baltistan Skardu, Virtual University of Pakistan and Food and Agriculture Organization. The conference was broadcast live through Zoom in the auditorium of the University of Baltistan, while a large number of experts and researchers also participated online.
Special guests and participants
The chief guest of the inaugural ceremony of the conference was Professor Dr. Masroor Elahi Babar, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Dera Ismail Khan. Professor Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti, Rector of the Virtual University of Pakistan, and Dr. Syed Ashfaq Hussain, Director of Wildlife Gilgit-Baltistan also attended the event. In addition, experts from Nepal, China, Bhutan and India also presented papers.
Highlights of First International Conference on Yak
The main objective of the conference was to highlight the importance of yak and provide modern scientific and research information to its breeders so that its production can be increased. The experts clarified that the yak is a very hardy animal that is an important part of the economy of the local people in snowy and high-altitude areas (especially Gilgit-Baltistan).
Dzo/Zomo is a cross of local cow and yak”, which also highlighted its productivity and utility.
The speakers emphasized the need for joint efforts at the national and international levels regarding yak breeding, disease prevention, and value addition of its meat and milk.
In the closing remarks, Virtual University Rector thanked the organizing committee and the domestic and foreign participants for the successful organization of the conference, and shields and certificates were also distributed among various personalities.
