Diagnostics and data collection are very important to improve antimicrobial resistance, diagnosis and reduce the cost of treatment. These views were expressed by Secretary Livestock Punjab Muhammad Masood Anwar on the occasion of the inauguration of a laboratory built with the support of the Fleming Fund.
AMR Lab at PRI Rawalpindi
According to the details, a modern laboratory on antimicrobial resistance has been established at the Poultry Research Institute Rawalpindi with the support of the Fleming Fund. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Head of Fleming Fund Pakistan Dr. Qadeer Ahsan said that this fund is working in 24 countries and the establishment of this laboratory will help in working on antimicrobial resistance.

On this occasion, the Secretary Livestock further said that he is grateful to the support of the Fleming Fund in establishing this laboratory. This modern laboratory will prove to be the first of its kind to test antimicrobial resistance. He further said that reducing antimicrobial resistance is also essential for the One Health concept and the establishment of a modern laboratory will prove effective in reducing antimicrobial resistance, improving diagnosis and reducing the cost of treatment.
AHC at AMR Lab Inauguration
The Animal Husbandry Commissioner and Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization said that steps will have to be taken regarding antimicrobial resistance with the help of the World Organization for Animal Health and other international organizations. On this occasion, it was further said that unnecessary use of antibiotics must be stopped.
Secretary Livestock Punjab Muhammad Masood Anwar further said on this occasion that if the problem of antimicrobial resistance is not solved, the economic problems will increase further. He said that the establishment of this laboratory will not only make it possible to obtain accurate data about AMR but will also help in formulating a long-term strategy in this regard.
He said that the Livestock Department is working on the mission of preventing diseases, making proper use of available resources and increasing livestock-related exports with the commitment that prevention is better than cure, in which the establishment of such laboratories is encouraging for success..

The inauguration ceremony of the laboratory was attended by the Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Director General Research, Director Communication and Director General National Veterinary Laboratory, along with representatives of NARC, Food and Agriculture Organization, Fleming Fund, educational and research institutions and the private poultry sector.
