National Veterinary Laboratory Islamabad participated in different activities of AMR Awareness Week 2023. During Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2023, NVL Islamabad played its role in highlighting its importance. Besides the awareness walk, the lab also participated in different other activities. Lab conducted sessions with the students of microbiology. Staff also attended national conference and seminar. Furthermore, they were also part of an awareness activity at PIMS.

Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2023

The world observes Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week every year. AMR Awareness Week 2023 was also observed in different countries. Pakistan also observe Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2023. Experts raise their voices against antimicrobial resistance. Experts say the overuse of antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents causes resistance against these drugs. These medicines become less effective in this case.

So during this week, awareness is spread among different stakeholders. Under One Health concept, medical professionals and veterinary professionals are focused. World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week is observed during 18-24 November.

National Veterinary Laboratory – NVL Islamabad

National Veterinary Laboratory Islamabad works Federal Ministry. This is under Ministry of National Food Security and Research. This is the federal veterinary diagnostics and testing lab.

It offers the services of disease diagnostics and vaccine quality control. Furthermore, it works on residue analysis and toxin analysis in livestock and livestock products. Moreover, it works as a national reference lab for transboundary animal diseases. It also collaborates and coordinates with other agencies for the control and eradication of livestock diseases. NVL Islamabad is also the source of training for national and regional veterinary laboratories.
