Buffalo is no less than a blessing for Pakistan, but unfortunately we have not been able to take advantage of its production capacity and other features. If buffalo is provided with proper food and environment, it can produce better milk as well as meat. For this, it will be necessary for farmers to keep a few basic things in mind.
Buffalo Calf Management and Feeding
The basis of better buffalo production is the early care of calves and calves. If proper care is taken at this time, better milk production can be achieved after puberty and weaning at an early age. In this regard, it is important to feed the calf within an hour of birth so that maximum immunity can be developed. Start using dry barley, oats or rhodes grass hay from the first week of life and use calf starter at the same time. Breastfeeding for the first two months is very important and stinginess in this leads to future problems.
The most important aspect in the care of young children is also not to give green fodder at all for the first four months so that the udder can develop better. If you start feeding the baby from the beginning, the stomach will start hanging down and growth will stop. Give calf starter and fresh green fodder to calves over four months of age. When the animal starts eating more food, gradually increase the amount of green fodder.
Give the calf dewormer medicine for the first time at the age of one month and then every three months for a year. Animals older than one year of age if deworming medicines are given twice a year, better results are obtained.
Buffalo Puberty and Successful Buffalo Farming
The maturity of female calf is not related to its age but to its weight. As soon as the calf reaches a weight of about 340 kilograms, it reaches puberty, do not mate with an animal weighing less than this. If the initial care is improved and after one year of age, one and a half kilograms of Vanda is given along with fodder, the goat reaches puberty before the age of two years. The more the weight of the pregnant cow at the time of calving, the better the milk production. The minimum weight of the cow at the time of calving should be 500 kg.
Calf Management for Fattening
If the calves are to be reared for meat production (fattening), then take an animal weighing at least 150 kg and rear it for 90 days. Leave the animals open and provide a paved area. Feed the animal with deworming medicine three days after purchasing the animal. For fattening, give the animal 8 to 10 kg of silage and 1 kg of wind. Increase the diet as the weight increases. The basis of good buffalo production is the early care of the calves. Do not give green fodder to the young ones at all for the first four months.
Calef Interval in Buffalo Farming and Feeding Management
Among the concerns about buffaloes, the most serious problem is the interval between the birth of the first calf and the second calf. Due to the longer interval, buffaloes are not considered profitable. To reduce the interval between births, take care of a few basic things.
Give the animal a good and balanced diet after sleeping. The dry matter of the diet should be three percent of the body weight. For this, use whatever quality food is easily available. It is better to meet the nutritional needs of the animal with quality fodder, silage and cow dung.
If the animal does not come into heat for fifty days after parturition, then call a qualified veterinarian and get the uterus examined. The animal does not come into heat due to infection in the uterus. Along with this, the interval between two children also increases due to lack of nutrients.
Milking Management of Buffalo
Clean the udders with a solution of pyodine before and after milking so that problems like mastitis do not arise. For overall better production, provide a better environment to the animal in summer.
