The International Symposium on Poultry Health Challenges in Pakistan was organized in Faisalabad. The World Veterinary Poultry Association WVPA Pakistan branch and Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Science, UAF jointly organized this. Experts discussed different poultry diseases and chicken diseases. Besides avian influenza specialists, different poultry professionals and researchers discussed different topics. They talked about poultry disease control strategies, poultry disease diagnosis and other aspects.
Poultry Health Challenges and Poultry Industry
The Poultry Industry in Pakistan has an important role in the national economy and food security. Overall, it is the second-largest industry in Pakistan. Besides other challenges, this industry also faces poultry health challenges. Different poultry diseases and chicken diseases hit the flocks. Besides economic losses to the farmers, these also affect the poultry products rates in the market.

Poultry Health Symposium
Besides inaugural sessions, there were technical sessions in the symposium. Poultry professionals presented different aspects. Prof. Munir Iqbal discussed the control strategies for Avian Influenza with special reference to Pakistan. He is among the World Renowned Avian Influenza Specialists and Newcastle Disease specialists. He belongs to Pirbright Institute, United Kingdom.
Dr. Abdul Rashid Shoukat discussed the current situation of Fowl adenoviruses in Pakistan. Furthermore, he also discussed their control measures. On the other hand, Dr. Farhan Afzal highlighted the current situation of poultry diseases in Punjab. He said that all diseases load was less as compared with previous years.

Dr. Aamir Ali from NIBGE talked about salmonella control strategies. Prof. Aamir Ghafoor from UVAS highlighted different aspects of avian salmonella. Moreover, he discussed the vaccine for avian salmonella. Furthermore, Dr. Farhan Farooq highlighted the importance of correct temperature and ventilation for poultry houses.
Regarding Poultry Disease Diagnosis, Dr. Khalid Naeem Khawaja discussed the method of sample collection. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of the type and quality of samples. This aspect directly affects the result quality. Poultry Professionals also highlighted other aspects poultry health challenges.
World Veterinary Poultry Association
WVPA is an international association of poultry veterinarians and avian health professionals. World Veterinary Poultry Association has also representation from Pakistan. Dr. Hanif Nazir Ch is the president while Dr. Kashif Saleemi is the Secretary of the WVPA Pakistan Branch. Currently, there are more than 140 members of WVPA Pakistan.

During the Symposium, Dr. Muhammad Kashif Saleemi presented the WVPA Pakistan activities. He also highlighted the opportunities for members. He told WVPA Pakistan will bid to host the WVPA Asian meeting in 2026 in Pakistan. This bid will be presented next year at an Asian meeting in Manila.
