Experts spoke at the Sino-Pakistan Workshop at UAF. Department of Pathology of Veterinary Faculty organized this. Furthermore, China Agricultural University was the collaborator. Experts from China as well as Pakistan discussed the different aspects of livestock diseases. Besides modern diagnosis and treatment techniques, they also spotted the control of livestock diseases. Furthermore, they also related this issue with livestock exports. Lumpy Skin Disease as well as Foot and Mouth Disease were the main concerns. On the other hand, they also discussed brucellosis and other diseases.

While addressing, Prof. Dr. Farzana Rizvi highlighted the importance of livestock sector . Dr. Kashif Saleemi spoke about the objectives of the workshop. Furthermore, Prof. Jaffar Jaskani and Chinese experts also addressed.

Control of Livestock Diseases in Pakistan

Livestock has an important role in the national economy of Pakistan. Besides this, it is the base of rural economy. Most importantly, it is the backbone of food security. Diseases like foot and mouth disease, brucellosis, mastitis and now LSD are the main concerns. These diseases not only cause animal health losses but also impact production. Ultimately, these diseases affect the economy. This economic loss at the lower level leads to national level, finally. On the other hand, these diseases are a major hindrance to livestock exports. These affect the export of meat as well as dairy products. Furthermore, some diseases are related to public health concern.

So it is very important to control these diseases in Pakistan. This Sino-Pakistan Workshop at UAF was also in this regard.

China in Livestock of Pakistan

Chinese companies are taking interest in livestock sector of Pakistan. Besides health and production, they are also working for embryo. A Chinese company has started a project on buffalo embryo. They will export the genetics of Pakistani Buffalo.

Chinese company has got success in buffalo embryo. On the other hand, this company has also established a mega buffalo. Area of this farm is declared as FMD free zone.

On the other hand, there are also some collaborative projects for research and vaccine production. Recently an IUB has singed an MOU with Wuhan Institute of Virology. Furthermore, Livestock Department and UVAS are also working with Chinese Universities.
