History of World Milk Day

World Milk Day was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 2001.  The date of 1st June was chosen because many countries were already celebrating milk-related events around this time. More than 100 countries celebrate this day.

FAO started this day to recognize the importance of milk as a global food. This day offers an opportunity to focus attention on milk. It also celebrates the contributions of the dairy sector to economic development, food security, nutrition, and human health.
