
World Animal Day Ceremony held in Peshawar, organized by Brooke Pakistan
Brooke Pakistan celebrated World Animal Day in Peshawar. Minister Livestock KPK and Minister Social Welfare KPK as joined this World Animal Day Ceremony. The aim of the ceremony was to promote human compassion for animals, disaster preparedness, and policy cooperation. Various aspects, including the Animal Welfare policy issues, were highlighted by the experts.
Officials of the Livestock Department, educational institutions, civil society, social organizations and Brooke also attended the ceremony.

Minister Livestock KPK Fazal Hakeem Khan Yousafzai said that the services of Brooke Pakistan have strengthened the animal welfare and disaster recovery initiatives at the provincial level. We are committed to making these activities more effective in collaboration with experts and civil society. He appreciated the services of Brooke Pakistan for animal welfare.
Brooke Policy Brief on Animal Health Work under One Health
Minister for Social Welfare Syed Qasim Ali Shah appreciated the joint efforts of the government and civil society. He announced his support for the legislation related to animal welfare. He said that cooperation between departments and promoting compassion for animals promotes gentleness, kindness and moral development in society.
Experts on General and Policy Issues of Animal Welfare
Mufti Azhar Javed highlighted various aspects of animal welfare in the light of Islamic teachings at the event. Director General Veterinary Research Institute Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Ijaz informed the participants that the Livestock Department has proposed six bills related to animal welfare and production. More recently, guidelines have also been introduced regarding farm and laboratory animals. Dr. Syed Asad Ali Shah of the Livestock Extension Wing of the Department spoke about the department’s emergency operations during recent disasters, livestock losses and future improvements.
Professor Dr. Murad Ali Khan, Principal, College of Veterinary Sciences, University of Agriculture Peshawar, analyzed the issues related to animal welfare in Pakistan. He stressed the need for policy reforms, improvement of veterinary services and promotion of collaboration between research institutions, government and communities.

Representing Brooke Pakistan, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager Dr. Gulshad Khan highlighted the theme of World Animal Day 2025, “Save Animals, Save the Planet” and presented data on the impact of Brooke’s programs. Dr. Zafar, Regional Manager Peshawar, briefed the participants on Brooke’s flood relief efforts in Buner and its continued support to horse owners affected by disasters. Chief Executive Officer Brooke Pakistan Dr. Javed Iqbal Gondal said that animal welfare and community strength are intertwined. The protection of working animals strengthens livelihoods and builds resilient and compassionate societies.
