Arrival of lions in Lahore Zoo gifted by Dubai Government
Welcome ceremony on arrival of lions in Lahore Zoo gifted by Dubai Government. The Chief Minister of Punjab drove his own car to the Lahore Zoo to see the lions and tigers brought to the Lahore Zoo. After inspecting the new guests, the Chief Minister came straight to the dais, thanked the Emir of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for sending the gift of lions and tigers and said that the value of these 18 animals is Rs 100 million. He left with him.
The Lahore Zoo administration had been working hard for several days to prepare for this event, but the event ended without a formal start. Punjab Information Minister Samsam Bukhari and Jahangir Tareen were also present on the occasion.
Lions in Lahore Zoo, number increased
Thus, the 18 lions and tigers gifted by the friendly country became the pride of the Lahore Zoo and Lahore Safari Zoo. 14 lions and tigers are kept in the Lahore Zoo, while four lions and tigers are kept in the Safari Zoo. With the arrival of new visitors, the number of lions and tigers in Lahore Zoo has increased to 34, including 22 African lions and 12 tigers. Among the African lions, 5 are white and 17 are common, while among the 12 tigers, 7 are white and 5 are common. On the other hand, the number of lions in Lahore Safari Zoo has now increased to 38 and the number of tigers to 6.
Long Term Impacts
DG Wildlife Punjab Lt. (retd) Sohail Ashraf said that breeding will now be better with these animals received from the UAE. At present, a large number of lions in Lahore Zoo and Safari Zoo are from the same family, due to which they have low immunity to diseases. The bones of the children born to them are weak, now when animals from different families are bred, their children will be born healthy.
According to the Lahore Zoo administration, the new guests will be kept in quarantine for a few weeks and the staff will monitor them 24 hours a day. They are being given chicken meat along with beef.
