workshop was organized in collaboration with the National Veterinary Laboratory and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan on the topic of local production, registration and licensing of veterinary vaccines in Pakistan.
The workshop held at the National Veterinary Laboratory, Islamabad, was attended by Animal Husbandry Commissioner ß Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Muhammad Akram as the chief guest.
The workshop was attended by representatives of DRAP, Veterinary Research Institute (VRI) Lahore, Veterinary Research Institute Peshawar and organizations related to vaccine production and business.
Addressing the participants of the workshop, Dr. Muhammad Akram said that every year a large quantity of veterinary vaccines are imported into Pakistan. Efforts are being made to manufacture vaccines locally in Pakistan. The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan will cooperate with local companies in this regard. He said that the production of vaccines in Pakistan will reduce our dependence on imported vaccines and the problems faced by the veterinary sector in the country will be reduced.
A delegation from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan gave a briefing on pharmaceutical manufacturing, registration and licensing in Pakistan at the workshop.
Dr. Najam Al-Saqib and Ayesha Irfan from DRAP said that DRAP is fully supporting local companies and institutions in terms of pharmaceutical manufacturing, registration and licensing at the local level. DRAP is also taking immediate steps in this regard.
He said that if international standard vaccines for animals are developed in Pakistan, it will not only benefit local industries but also save valuable foreign exchange on vaccine import.
He said that with the development, registration and licensing of international standard vaccines, vaccines can also be exported to other countries.
Experts from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan said that licensing facilities will be provided to public sector vaccine production units as well as private vaccine production units for the veterinary sector in Pakistan under DRAP.
Dr. Khurshid Ahmed from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research said that 20 million doses of PPR vaccine were produced locally in Pakistan in 2022. He added that we are bringing all stakeholders together on one platform to establish linkages between DRAP’s required standards and local vaccine manufacturing companies to remove barriers in vaccine registration and licensing.
