Animal experts have stressed the need for concerted efforts to preserve and improve the local genetic diversity of livestock. Addressing an international seminar on challenges and opportunities related to meat and dairy production organized by the Faculty of Animal Affairs of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad and AURC in collaboration with the experts, they said that in view of the growing population, increasing the production per animal to ensure the supply of milk, meat and eggs will be possible only if their productivity is increased and their growth environment and care are developed on scientific grounds.

The seminar was attended by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Dera Ismail Khan, Professor Dr. Masroor Elahi Babar, Sardar Aftab Khan Du, Deputy Specialist Dr. Ya Qingwang, Dean Faculty of Animal Affairs Dr. Aslam Mirza, Engineer Samiullah and others.

On this occasion, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashraf said that this seminar includes progressive farmers of the livestock sectorso he would like the proceedings of the seminar to be published and made available to the grassroots farmers to learn about their achievements and experiences. He said that compared to traditional livestock farmers in Pakistan, there are farmers who take better care of the animals, better management and meet the nutritional needs and produce significantly more milk per animal, others should learn from such farmers.

Vice Chancellor of the Agricultural University of Dera Ismail Khan Professor Dr. Masroor Elahi Babar said that they have developed a new breed of local sheep through molecular genetics, which will come out in the year 2021. This will pave the way for the genetic improvement of animals. He said that despite limited resources, they have tried to contribute to research and science at the national level. Sahiwal Cattle Association Secretary Imran Basharat said that the farmer should get a fair price for milk

He also visited the exhibition related to the exhibition. There was also a stall of Pakistan Dairy Expo in the exhibition where people expressed deep interest. A new business model on the lines of blood milk should be introduced in Pakistan. Dr. Aslam Mirza, Brigadier (retd) Hamid Khalil, Dr. Javed Iqbal and others also addressed the seminar. The participants also visited the exhibition organized in connection with the seminar at the Expo Center.
